James Clancey builds AI-powered developer tools at GitHub. Focusing on the GitHub Copilot app, he works to make AI coding agents practical and useful for daily work, moving AI beyond simple chat interfaces into interactive, shared workspaces.

A self-taught technologist, his background spans mobile development, virtual reality, and tooling. He previously architected Microsoft’s Mobile SDK, built VR software at Meta, and created remote development workflows for the Godot Engine. Over his career, he has helped dozens of teams ship cross-platform applications.
