As one of the original forces behind its cloud computing approach, he helps startups reach global scale and pushes larger companies to move faster. He regularly breaks down machine learning, artificial intelligence, and distributed systems on his blog, *All Things Distributed*. His talks dive into the mechanics of building resilient systems, highlighting how simplicity and frugality lead to better architecture. Before Amazon, Werner worked as a distributed systems researcher at Cornell University.
