Job description

The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of McLaren Automotive's network infrastructure. This role ensures the high availability, security, and optimal performance of all network systems, supporting critical business operations and connectivity for all users. The Network Engineer will play a key role in developing and executing network strategies, contributing to the overall stability and scalability of our IT environment. What You'll Do Network Design and Implementation:

  • Design, configure, and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPNs, wireless access points).

  • Develop and maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.

  • Participate in the planning and execution of network upgrades, migrations, and expansions. Network Maintenance and Operations:

  • Monitor network performance and availability, identifying and resolving issues proactively.

  • Perform regular network device backups, software upgrades, and patch management.

  • Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.

  • Troubleshoot complex network problems, utilizing diagnostic tools and collaborating with other IT teams.

  • Manage and optimize network services such as DNS, DHCP, and NTP. Network Security:

  • Configure and manage firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and other security appliances.

  • Implement and enforce network security policies and best practices.

  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments. Collaboration and Support:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff regarding network connectivity issues.

  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure network requirements are met for new applications and initiatives.

  • Create and maintain accurate network diagrams, inventory, and configuration documentation.

  • Generate reports on network performance, availability, and security metrics.

  • Document troubleshooting steps and resolutions for future reference. What You'll Bring Business Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of cloud-native infrastructure and service reliability within a fast-paced technology organisation.

  • Familiarity with compliance and governance frameworks relevant to cloud operations (e.g., ISO, SOC2). Essential Functional / Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS preferred, Azure beneficial).

  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).

  • Deep knowledge of observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry). Band: Choose an item. cars.mclaren.com Version 1.0

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Git, Argo), containerisation (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).

  • Strong grasp of infrastructure security principles (IAM, encryption, segmentation).
