Senior Infrastructure Engineer

The Senior Infrastructure Support Engineer will be responsible for the stability, security, and continual improvement of MBA's IT infrastructure. This role requires a proactive, hands-on professional who can ensure optimal performance across servers, networks, and systems, while providing technical leadership and guidance to junior team members.

Key/Essential Skills:

Infrastructure Management & Support

• Maintain, support, and enhance MBA's server environment to ensure high availability and performance.

• Manage and support MBA's Active Directory infrastructure, ensuring effective access control and system integrity.

• Administer and maintain MBA Servers, ensuring performance tuning, patching, and backup reliability.

• Support and maintain MBA's public-facing, load-balanced web servers.

Network & Security

• Ensure MBA's network and systems are secure, compliant with recognised security standards, and aligned with industry best practices.

• Monitor network performance and provide expert analysis, guidance, and recommendations on security risks and improvements.

• Configure and maintain MBA's firewalls, routers, and switches to deliver maximum operational security, including the management of site-to-site and remote-access VPNs.

• Support secure client data transfers using a variety of secure transfer protocols and methods.

System Design & Continuous Improvement

• Design, plan, and implement improvements to MBA's IT systems from concept through to rollout, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal configuration.

• Take full ownership of infrastructure-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Junior IT Engineers, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.

• Provide 1st and 2nd line support cover when required due to staff absence or workload peaks.

• Ensure all IT systems are well-documented and transparent, maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date technical documentation.

Compliance, Licensing & Backup

• Maintain compliance with software licensing requirements and manage renewals as necessary.

• Manage and verify backup processes and procedures to ensure data protection and disaster recovery readiness.

Availability

• Provide out-of-hours support when required. MBA operates a 24/7 service, and occasional emergency assistance may be needed outside standard working hours.

Preferred Skills:

Server Infrastructure:

• Strong experience with enterprise-grade server hardware, including Fibre Channel (FC) and iSCSI configurations, and SAN storage management.

Do you have experience in VMware?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Proficiency in Microsoft Hyper-V and failover clustering technologies for high-availability environments.

Microsoft Ecosystem:

• In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy management.

Cloud & Identity Management:

• Experience managing Microsoft 365 (Office 365) and Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), including hybrid identity and access configurations.

Information Security:

• Solid understanding of information security systems, threat monitoring, and incident response practices.

Compliance & Best Practice:

• Awareness of relevant security legislation, frameworks, and industry best practices (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, Cyber Essentials).

Secure Connectivity:

• Expertise in secure data transfer methods including SFTP, site-to-site VPNs, and leased line configurations.

Network Management:

• Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining Fortinet firewalls and Cisco switches, with strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking principles.

Communication Systems:

• Familiarity with VoIP telephony systems, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Background experience:

• Extensive progressive experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or network engineering roles within a complex, multi-site environment.

• Hands-on experience managing Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, and Group Policy across enterprise infrastructures.

• Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining virtualised environments using Microsoft Hyper-V.

• Strong background in implementing and maintaining network and system security controls, including firewalls, VPNs, and endpoint protection.

• Practical understanding of compliance with standards such as ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, or NIST frameworks.

• Experience configuring and maintaining SAN storage (FC/iSCSI), backup systems, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and availability.

• Solid experience in LAN/WAN management, TCP/IP networking, routing/switching (Cisco preferred), and firewall configuration (Fortinet or equivalent).

• Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and deliver infrastructure projects - from initial design through deployment - with minimal supervision., · Degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

· Demonstrable hands-on experience that evidences senior-level technical capability in infrastructure support and systems administration.

· Strong understanding of Microsoft enterprise technologies, networking fundamentals, and IT security principles.

Desirable (Professional Certifications):

· Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate

· CompTIA Network+

· Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher

· CompTIA Security+, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or equivalent

· Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

· SAN/Storage vendor certifications (e.g. Dell EMC, HPE, NetApp)

· ITIL Foundation (v4 preferred) certification demonstrating an understanding of IT service delivery frameworks.
