Job description

Are you passionate about protecting systems, people, and data? Do you want to make a real difference in a community-focused organisation that values innovation, collaboration, and professional growth? If so, Bradford Council's IT Services Team would love to hear from you.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking ISP Security professional to join our Enterprise Architecture and Systems Services Team, based at Britannia House in the heart of Bradford. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead our dedicated IT Security team and play a key role in strengthening and evolving the council's security posture.

In this role, you'll take the lead on developing security policies, shaping security documentation, and ensuring our systems are well-supported, resilient, and secure. You'll work closely with colleagues across the organisation-including project teams, business units, and infrastructure specialists-to guide, influence, and champion best-practice security controls.

What you'll be doing:

  • Driving and supporting the council's evolving security strategy
  • Overseeing the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of Information Security policies, procedures and guidance
  • Partnering with our internal and external SOC resources to protect the council's digital estate
  • Leading execution of the IT Security Strategy and contributing to long-term security planning
  • Managing and maintaining a clear risk, controls, and issues framework for information security
  • Overseeing investigations, escalations, and reporting of security incidents, including data protection breaches
  • Maintaining key security metrics, risk indicators and dashboards
  • Developing and maintaining our incident response processes
  • Providing expertise across all major security domains including infrastructure, applications, cloud, integration and networks
  • Working hands-on with key technologies such as anti-virus/endpoint protection, mail and web filtering, vulnerability assessment, and penetration testing tools
  • Leveraging your experience with AWS, Azure and Microsoft 365 security features
  • Supporting authentication, identity, and access management initiatives, including implementation of the council's IAM plan
  • Contributing to our Architecture Framework as we transform IT Services for the future

Requirements

Do you have experience in Penetration testing?, * Strong understanding of privacy, compliance and regulatory frameworks such as PCI DSS, PSN, DPA, IG Toolkit and the Computer Misuse Act

  • Experience delivering robust information security practices in a complex environment
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills-you'll be helping shape security culture across the council
  • CISSP, CISM or similar certification is advantageous
  • Knowledge of TOGAF is desirable

This is more than just a security role-it's an opportunity to influence real change, protect vital public services, and be part of a supportive team committed to continuous improvement.

If you're ready to help us build a safer, smarter Bradford, we'd love to talk.
