Job description
The Data Engineer will play a key role in enabling Aberdeen City Council to deliver data-driven insights that support improved outcomes for children and families. The post holder will be responsible for designing and implementing data services and models within the Council's Microsoft Fabric platform, integrating multi-source datasets to support strategic priorities such as Whole Family Wellbeing Funding and Fairer Future Pathfinder. This role requires close collaboration with service leads and analysts to ensure data solutions are aligned with operational needs and uphold governance, quality, and security standards., o Communicating effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, simplifying complex information for diverse stakeholders across organisational, technical and political boundaries. o Translating multi-source data into actionable insights using appropriate analytical techniques and tools, including visualisation and reporting. o Designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and ETL processes using modern data engineering frameworks. o Integrating data from disparate systems, including APIs, and developing resilient, secure and future-proof data services. o Developing and optimising data models within Microsoft Fabric, including lakehouse/warehouse architecture, dataflows, and semantic models that support cross-service analytics. o Creating and managing Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards that enable strategic insight and operational decision-making. o Writing and optimising SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis across relational and cloud-based data sources. o Applying data analysis and synthesis techniques to inform decisions and support service improvement. o Managing metadata and designing repositories that support data governance, discoverability, and reuse. o Diagnosing and resolving data-related issues, ensuring robust and sustainable solutions. o Programming and iterating code from prototype to production-ready, using language and tools appropriate to the data platform. o Demonstrating technical understanding of enterprise data platforms, cloud environments, and data integration technologies. o Planning, designing, and executing tests to ensure data integrity, performance, and compliance with relevant regulations. o Negotiating and influencing across teams and stakeholders, contributing to a positive and collaborative organisational culture., Please note that eligibility to work in the UK is dependent on legal status and all applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK. Requirements
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £31,505 per annum / £17.31 per hour) The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee's first FULL month's salary payment., o A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or another technology related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
