Job description
We are seeking a skilled Systems Administrator with hands-on experience managing Linux and Windows server environments. This role is not a Tier 1 support/helpdesk role; it involves working with physical and virtual solutions, including server deployments, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Once up to speed, you'll enjoy a varied and interesting workload, supporting a dynamic infrastructure that underpins critical business operations.
You will report directly to the Head of Infrastructure as part of a small, close-knit team. The teams average service length currently exceeds 13 years.
The role is primarily based at our Salisbury office, and we'd ideally like someone who can be on-site five days a week. However, hybrid working is available, with the option to work from home up to two days per week. We pride ourselves on being family-friendly, and during school half terms, you'll have the flexibility to work from home to help balance family commitments.
Successful candidates will be required to have DBS background checks as part of the hiring process, as well as Right to Work in the UK. You must be based in the UK for this role - we cannot accept applications from outside of the UK.

- Provide technical support to internal users and clients, promptly troubleshooting and resolving their issues.
- You will be part of the on-call rota to address any service issues that may arise outside of normal working hours. When responding to incidents during on-call periods, any overtime worked will be compensated generously, reflecting the importance of keeping our systems running smoothly.
- Administer physical and virtual devices, inc. firewalls, SANs, switches and routers.
- Configure and support a wide range of application technologies, inc. Virtual Machines, Hypervisors, DHCP, DNS, VPNs and Backup Software.
- Conduct regular tasks, such as testing of system backups and disaster recovery solutions.
- Use existing tooling to monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Maintain documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Deploy patches and system upgrades on servers.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Windows?, * Minimum 4+ years' experience in an IT support or systems administrator role.
- Experience in administrating both Windows and Linux environments.
- Experience managing a Windows Active Directory or LDAP environment.
- Experience with hosting PHP / .NET web applications or MSSQL / MySQL / MariaDB databases.
- Understanding of network concepts such as layouts and TCP/IP.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
- Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written, to facilitate clear interactions with team members and users alike.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in a Digital Agency or similar.
- Experience with scripting languages, such as BASH, PowerShell, or Python, is a plus but not essential.
- Experience with reverse proxies (e.g. HAProxy, NGINX, Varnish).
- Experience with automation tools (e.g. Puppet, Ansible, Chef).
- Industry qualifications (e.g. Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, RedHat, etc.)
- Basic understanding of ISO 27001 or ITIL-based processes.
- Experience with network configuration or database administration., * IT support: 4 years (required)
