Job description

Damia Group is supporting a leading public sector consultancy in delivering advanced cloud and digital transformation solutions across highly secure government environments. We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Engineer with active UKIC clearance to join a specialist engineering team responsible for designing, deploying, and optimising secure cloud infrastructure that underpins national-level systems.

You will work in a high-trust, high-impact environment, applying cloud automation, infrastructure-as-code, and security best practices to deliver scalable and resilient platforms., * Design, build, and maintain secure AWS cloud environments for mission-critical public sector systems.

  • Develop automation and infrastructure-as-code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using AWS-native and open-source tooling.
  • Ensure compliance with strict security and governance standards within a UKIC-cleared environment.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise cloud infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cloud architects, security specialists, and software engineering teams on end-to-end solution delivery.
  • Produce clear technical documentation for architecture, processes, and operational procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of cloud engineering standards, tooling, and best practices.

Requirements

  • Active UKIC Security Clearance (mandatory).
  • Strong commercial experience designing and operating solutions on AWS.
  • Hands-on expertise with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of secure cloud architecture principles and security controls.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline).
  • Experience with Linux administration, networking concepts, and IAM-based access control.
  • Strong scripting ability (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working in public sector, defence, or other secure environments.
  • Exposure to containerisation technologies (Docker, ECS, EKS, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of Zero Trust, NCSC cloud security guidance, or other government frameworks.
  • Familiarity with secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager, HashiCorp Vault).
  • Experience with cost optimisation and cloud governance tooling.
