Job description

We're now looking for a Project Manager to join our team in Weston-Super-Mare and take ownership of varied projects for our local authority customer, most of which sit within complex IT environments. If you thrive on collaboration, clarity, and keeping things moving, this might be your next step.

The Role

You'll lead the full project lifecycle; from shaping the initial problem statement all the way through to transition and close-down. Your work will help customers deliver their strategic priorities and business transformation initiatives.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Understand stakeholder needs and translate them into well-structured, costed project proposals, complete with plans, milestones, resourcing requirements and risks.
  • Work in a matrix environment with technical specialists, architects, procurement, HR, suppliers and customer teams to deliver projects on time, to budget, and to quality.
  • Keep everyone informed through clear reporting, ensuring sponsors and the PMO always have visibility of progress, risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Manage change control, ensuring any shifts to time, cost or scope are understood, agreed and documented.
  • Transition projects seamlessly into operational teams so that handovers are smooth, embedded and sustainable.
  • Drive project closure activities, including lessons learned and benefits realisation, where applicable.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across the PMO and offer project management expertise to colleagues to support delivery across the wider portfolio.

Requirements

Do you have experience in IT project management?, * Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively.

  • Experience managing IT infrastructure projects, ideally in a complex, multi-site organisation. Any previous experience working within the public sector and/or local authority would be highly desirable.
  • Experience using ITIL-aligned processes or customer management systems.
  • Familiarity with MS Project, Project Online, or similar toolsets. A recognised project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM, PMI) is not essential but would be beneficial.
  • Strong project transition experience, and experience coordinating resources across teams to deliver outcomes to time, cost, and quality.
  • Demonstrable planning and organisational skills, including risk and issue management.
  • A problem-solving mindset with the ability to generate and support creative solutions, plus confidence analysing information to support evidence-based decisions.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments with competing priorities.
  • Understanding of business change and benefits management.
  • A commitment to continuous personal and professional development., * IT project management: 5 years (preferred)
