Job description
You will join an IT department responsible for a portfolio of around twenty business-critical Java applications used to monitor and control real-time railway traffic. The program focuses on: Improving operational efficiency in control rooms Consolidating a central real-time IT platform Enabling exception-based traffic supervision Strengthening cybersecurity in line with European NIS directives
You will work as a hands-on Technical Lead within an agile/scrum development team.
Main Responsibilities Act as Technical Lead within a full-stack Java squad Design, develop, and maintain complex real-time applications, including new features and refactoring Ensure performance, reliability, and high availability of production systems Support and coach developers through strong technical expertise Promote clean, readable, and reusable code Produce and maintain technical and functional documentation Apply internal guidelines, standards, and procedures After onboarding, participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation (approx. one week every eight weeks)
Requirements
Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent 5-10 years of experience as a Senior Java Full-Stack Engineer or Technical Lead Confirmed experience in Agile/Scrum (Scrum Master certification is a plus)
Technical Skills Strong expertise in Java 17; exposure to Java 21+ Minimum five years as a Java full-stack engineer Good knowledge of: Tibco RDV, Eclipse RCP, Hazelcast Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and GitLab Experience using Jira Agile, Xray, Confluence Understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery architectures
Soft Skills & Mindset Ability to understand the critical nature of real-time railway systems Strong team integration and alignment with values such as kindness, courage, positivity, and reliability Excellent communication and presentation skills Structured, clear, and concise interactions with stakeholders High sense of ownership and long-term commitment
Languages Excellent command (C2) of French or Dutch Basic knowledge (A2) of the second national language Fluent English (C1)
