Job description

The Integration Developer at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust plays a vital role in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of secure, standards-compliant interfaces between clinical, operational and third-party systems. Primarily using the Trust's Rhapsody Integration Engine, you'll ensure efficient, reliable data exchange to support patient-centred care delivery.

Northumbria is highly digitally focused and committed to investing in our people. We offer generous holiday entitlement, access to additional training and a range of staff perks, including salary-sacrifice vehicle leasing and home-electronics schemes.

  • Interface Development & Maintenance: Design, develop, test (unit, integration, regression), and optimise HL7, FHIR, XML and REST/SOAP/MLLP interfaces; implement performance tuning and troubleshooting of integration flows.
  • Mapping & Data Standards: Create and maintain mapping tables in collaboration with the Data Platform team to ensure adherence to data standards.
  • Architecture & Documentation: Support the definition of integration architecture; produce detailed technical designs, SOPs, and post-mortems for unplanned downtime; update documentation to minimise recurrence.
  • Operational Support & Monitoring: Monitor day-to-day interface performance; provide on-call support and coordinate with the Digital Service Desk for planned or unplanned changes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with clinical users, suppliers, and technical teams to gather requirements, manage scope, negotiate priorities, and report on project status.

Requirements

  • Advanced experience with Rhapsody Integration Engine (filters, translators, communication points).
  • In-depth knowledge of HL7 v2.x, FHIR, and NHS messaging frameworks; scripting with JavaScript, XPath, and transformation logic.
  • Proficiency in any one of SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle for data querying/auditing.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs (JSON/XML) and web services integration.
  • Methodologies: Experience in Agile/DevOps environments, version control, and interface lifecycle management.
  • Communication & Analysis: Excellent verbal and written skills for translating complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders; ability to perform root-cause analysis and statistical/technical problem solving
  • Act as the technical contact for integration activities, influencing long-term strategies in collaboration with Senior Developers.
  • Represents the Integration workstream in multi-stakeholder forums and contributes to policy/service development across the Trust
