Job description
Manchester Metropolitan University is expanding its cloud capability to support the delivery of secure, scalable, and resilient digital services across the institution. As the University increases its reliance on cloud technologies to support business operations and research, we are seeking a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to take a technical lead role in the ongoing development and operational management of our Microsoft Azure and AWS platforms.
This is a key opportunity to influence and shape the University's cloud platform strategy, ensuring our Azure environment is aligned to best practice, delivers value for money, and supports a wide range of service and infrastructure requirements across the University., As Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, you will:
- Take technical ownership of the University's Microsoft cloud platforms, leading on configuration, management, and optimisation.
- Develop and maintain secure, scalable landing zones and associated infrastructure-as-code to support enterprise workloads.
- Work collaboratively with technical teams, project managers, and solution architects to deliver resilient and cost-effective cloud infrastructure aligned with University strategy.
- Monitor platform performance, security, and usage, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and automation.
- Lead on the implementation of governance, tagging, policy, and access control models to support robust cloud management.
- Provide expert support and mentoring to other technical staff working on or with cloud-hosted services.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Terraform?, You will bring:
- Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure using Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services.
- Strong hands-on expertise with core cloud services across Microsoft Azure and AWS, including networking, storage, compute, security and identity.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Bicep, ARM, Terraform) and automation tools such as PowerShell or Azure CLI.
- A deep understanding of cloud security, governance, and cost management principles.
- The ability to influence and collaborate effectively with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A commitment to continuous learning and improving cloud service delivery in line with evolving best practices and organisational needs.
