Are you excited by the idea of being at the forefront of IT support for all the academics, students and staff of a busy University department? If so, you could be the person we are looking for to join our team. We are seeking an IT Support Officer to join our department. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to manage a varied workload in a busy department; you will have a high degree of independence, within a supportive and communicative small departmental team. In this role, you will be responsible for looking after the day-to-day IT needs of all the members of staff within the DPAG and to work closely with the Head of IT, AV and Digital Delivery in delivering a first-class support service. The role will involve all aspects of general desktop/laptop/mobile phone and peripheral first-line assistance and will require a good understanding of Windows OS (10 and 11 as well as legacy systems), Mac OSX, and Linux (Ubuntu). You will also need to help users resolve issues with University and third-party accounts, software programs, lecture capture and meeting room AV facilities, and participate in projects involving new University technologies and systems as they arise. - Assist with the purchase of new IT equipment and to maintain the department's IT asset register
- Purchase, set up, configure, and connect new research group printers using the MSD iPrint system
- Install and configure new devices
- Introduce new Department starters to their IT accounts for the University and Department, conducting an induction to ensure mandatory training is undertaken.
- Offer support and advice on software solutions including available University software
Requirements
- A-level standard of education or beyond
- Have the ability to communicate in a calm and clear manner, in particular the ability to communicate complex technical detail in simple terms to non-IT staff. The ability to work with people at all levels of seniority in the University.
- Demonstrable ability to learn new systems, as well as diagnose and repair problems with common software packages such as Microsoft Office.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 7-11, Mac OSX, iOs, Android, Microsoft Office Professional 2010-2021 and 365.
- Thorough understanding of PC hardware (for example, ability to change hard disks or PCIe cards; ability to distinguish between hardware and software faults).
- Self-motivated, quick learner, able to work alone, manage and take ownership of a discrete project and own workload, also to contribute as a team player.
