Job description

We are seeking a professional, proactive, and versatile IT Engineer to join our growing IT team based in Stoke-on-Trent. This role covers both 1st and 2nd line support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with users while also tackling more complex technical challenges.

This is a unique opportunity to grow your skills in an environment where you'll be using the Microsoft Tech Stack. You'll be joining a small, multi-skilled team where you will be working alongside a group of experts from different disciplines.

What you'll be doing Providing day-to-day IT support, manage escalations, and help maintain and improve our IT infrastructure. As we phase out legacy systems, you will play an active role in supporting our modern clustered-environment built around Windows 11, Windows Server 2019 and above, thin clients/terminal services, and Android-based handheld devices. You will also gain hands-on experience with industry-specific software and hardware alongside bespoke applications developed in-house.

Some travel will be required to support our sites across the UK and Ireland, with expenses covered by the company. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in the department's on-call rota, providing out-of-hours support where required.

Your Key Responsibilities

· Provide 1st and 2nd line support for hardware, software, and network issues.

· Act as the first point of contact for IT queries, ensuring incidents and requests are logged, tracked, and resolved efficiently.

· Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues in a timely manner.

· Support, maintain, and configure Microsoft environments to company policy specifications, including:

· Windows Desktop: Windows 11 Professional

· Windows Server: 2019 and above

· Microsoft Office 365

· Manage Active Directory accounts, permissions, and group policies.

· Manage folder shares and permissions.

· Support thin client and terminal services environments.

· Assist with server and network maintenance, updates, and patching.

· Contribute to IT projects, rollouts, and upgrades.

· Maintain accurate documentation of systems, fixes, and procedures.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driving Licence license?, Do you have experience in Virtualization?, · Previous experience in an IT support role (1st/2nd line).

· Strong knowledge of Microsoft Desktop and Server operating systems.

· Good understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, and Office 365 administration.

· Familiarity with thin clients and terminal services.

· Familiarity with Android devices and MDM environments.

· Basic networking knowledge (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).

· Excellent troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach.

· Strong communication and customer service skills.

· Full UK driving licence (due to travel requirements).

Our Desired Skills (but not essential)

· Experience with clustered-virtualisation (Hyper-V/VMware).

· Exposure to backup solutions and disaster recovery.

· Knowledge of ITIL processes.

· Relevant Microsoft certifications (MCSA, MS-900, AZ-104, etc.).
