We are currently looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our client's forward-thinking, collaborative, and technology-driven team. In this role, you'll take the lead in shaping and delivering modern cloud data solutions, working closely with a highly skilled Data & BI function. Reporting into the Manager of Global Enterprise Data & BI, you'll be hands-on designing cloud-native data architectures, modernising legacy pipelines, and mentoring a wider engineering team. As a Lead Data Engineer, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the organisation's data platforms are scalable, secure, and capable of delivering impactful insights across the business., As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll have the chance to architect and implement cutting-edge solutions across Azure Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric, influencing the future of the company's global data ecosystem. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a cloud-first environment and enjoys driving modernisation at scale.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and mentor internal and external data engineering teams to deliver best-in-class cloud solutions.
- Design, build, and optimise enterprise data platforms using Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, and lakehouse architectures.
- Modernise traditional ETL/ELT processes and transition workloads to cloud-native tools.
- Develop scalable data pipelines, Spark-based processing, and dataflows for unified analytics.
- Implement governance, security, and compliance standards across all cloud data environments.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to support high-value analytics and Power BI initiatives.
- Produce documentation, technical designs, and support materials to enable continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Proven experience leading data engineering initiatives in a cloud environment.
- Expertise in Azure Synapse Analytics (SQL pools, Spark, pipelines, serverless SQL).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Data Engineering/Data Science workloads).
- Strong SQL skills (T-SQL, Synapse SQL, Lakehouse SQL).
- Experience with Python and/or Spark for big data processing.
- Knowledge of cloud data architecture (ADLS Gen2, Delta Lake, Parquet).
- Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards.
