Job description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure team. This hybrid role combines remote work with on-site visits as required at Portwest offices or warehouse locations in the UK or Ireland. You will be responsible for maintaining, securing, and evolving our global IT infrastructure, including Microsoft 365, Cisco Meraki, and Fortinet environments. This position requires strong hands-on technical capability, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple international teams.

As our business continues to scale, you will play a key role in ensuring our IT systems remain robust, secure, and aligned with global standards., * Manage and support Cisco Meraki network infrastructure (switches, access points, firewalls, VPNs).

  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Fortinet firewall and security solutions.
  • Support and maintain Windows Server and Hyper-V environments, including VMs, networking, and storage.
  • Oversee and validate data protection systems (Veeam, Windows Server Backup).
  • Collaborate with the global IT team to align local and regional infrastructure with global standards.
  • Administer and optimise Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
  • Manage Azure Active Directory, identity, and access controls.
  • Maintain compliance, endpoint management, and device security using Intune and related tools.
  • Support automation initiatives to improve system efficiency and scalability
  • Lead or participate in IT infrastructure projects (e.g., server migrations, network upgrades, cloud integration).
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance system reliability and performance.
  • Produce and maintain clear infrastructure documentation, procedures, and asset records.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Tier 1 and Tier 2 support staff as needed.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Windows?, * Minimum 5 years' experience in infrastructure or systems engineering.

  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Microsoft 365 administration and Azure AD
  • Cisco Meraki networking (switches, APs, VPN)
  • Fortinet firewalls and security appliances
  • Windows Server and Hyper-V environments
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid, multi-site environment.
  • Full professional fluency in English.

Desirable:

  • Relevant certifications such as Fortinet NSE, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator/365 Expert.
  • Experience with Veeam, Intune, and automation or scripting (PowerShell, Python).
  • Exposure to manufacturing, logistics, or warehouse environments., Applicants must have a right to live and work in the relevant jurisdiction.
