Job description
We are seeking an experienced Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Senior Engineer to provide hands-on operational support, optimisation, and expertise across our AVD estate. This role is pivotal in ensuring a stable, secure, and high-performing virtual desktop platform, while enabling internal teams through robust documentation and knowledge transfer. Working closely with Cloud Architects, Engineering Leads, Security, and Service Delivery teams, you will help drive improvements in performance, governance, scalability, and automation. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and is confident operating with minimal supervision, * Provide day-to-day BAU support across the AVD environment, including FSLogix, session hosts, image management, and troubleshooting.
- Manage AVD configuration through Intune/Endpoint Manager and Group Policy, covering app deployment, compliance, updates, and patching.
- Monitor and maintain environment performance, health, and capacity, ensuring proactive issue resolution.
- Lead knowledge transfer to Cloud, EUC, and Support teams, producing documentation, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
- Review and optimise AVD architecture, image strategy, scaling, and security posture, identifying opportunities for performance, cost, governance, and automation.
- Collaborate with Cloud Architects, Engineering Leads, and Security teams, contributing to technical recommendations and AVD roadmap planning.

Do you have deep hands-on expertise in Azure Virtual Desktop, Intune, and enterprise-scale cloud operations? Do you thrive in roles where you can solve problems, optimise environments, and share your knowledge with others?, You will be an experienced AVD specialist with strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and the confidence to drive meaningful technical improvements. You will also bring excellent communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders., * Strong hands-on experience designing, managing, and supporting Azure Virtual Desktop environments.
- Deep knowledge of:
- FSLogix, including profile configuration and storage optimisation
- Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager (app deployment, policy management, compliance, updates)
- Azure AD / Entra ID, including Conditional Access and governance
- On-prem Active Directory and Group Policy Management
- Azure Networking (VNets, NSGs, routing, firewalls)
- Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, AVD Insights
- Image management, host pool configuration, and scaling
- Demonstrable BAU support experience in enterprise cloud environments.
- Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and optimise existing AVD deployments.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring or upskilling technical teams.
- A self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple workstreams.
