About the Position The Director of Creative Services (Design, Multimedia, and Brand) is a member of the Marketing and Communications leadership team. Working in partnership with the editorial and web services directors, this role helps shape strategy, establish priorities, and ensure cohesive, high-quality storytelling across all channels.

The Director supervises a small team and personally contributes to select multimedia projects, including filming and editing video content that supports institutional storytelling. This role is ideal for a seasoned creative professional who thrives in a collaborative, resource-conscious environment and enjoys balancing leadership with direct creative work.

Primary Responsibilities

Creative Strategy and Brand Leadership (20%)

  • Help guide the visual expression of the College's brand across print, digital, web, and social communications
  • Translate institutional priorities and complex academic narratives into compelling, audience-centered visual stories
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications leadership to support campaign development and maintain a cohesive visual identity
  • Provide creative direction on major initiatives and ensure consistency across channels

Team Management (20%)

  • Supervise, mentor, and support a small team of creative staff members (graphic designer, multimedia specialists)
  • Establish clear workflows, project priorities, and expectations to support efficient and collaborative work
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching to support professional growth and maintain high creative standards
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and solution-oriented creative culture

Design and Multimedia Production (40%)

  • Lead and execute creative projects from concept through delivery across print and digital platforms
  • Personally design, film, and edit select multimedia projects, including short-form videos, social media content, and institutional storytelling pieces
  • Work with campus and other partners to develop visual assets that support marketing campaigns, institutional initiatives, and ongoing communications
  • Provide creative direction and quality control for video, photography, and motion graphics produced by staff or external collaborators

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement (10%)

  • Partner with writers, marketers, web teams, and campus stakeholders to develop integrated, multi-channel campaigns
  • Advise campus partners on creative approaches, timelines, and best practices
  • Ensure creative solutions align with strategic goals, brand standards, and accessibility guidelines

Project and Vendor Management (5%)

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines
  • Coordinate timelines and budgets for creative initiatives
  • As needed, source and manage freelancers, videographers, agencies, and vendors

Brand Governance and Standards (5%)

  • Maintain brand guidelines, templates, and visual systems
  • Ensure compliance with brand standards, copyright, licensing, and accessibility requirements (ADA/WCAG)
  • Review final creative deliverables prior to production or publication

Line of Report: The Creative Director reports to Vice President for Marketing and Communications. The Creative Director directly supervises the Multimedia Producer and Print Production Manager. They also help to oversee freelance photographers, videographers, and graphic designers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, marketing, film/video production, or a related field, AND five (5) years of professional creative experience, including experience producing visual and multimedia content
  • OR -
  • Nine (9) years of professional creative experience, including experience producing visual and multimedia content, * Strong portfolio showcasing design, branding, and video/multimedia production, including filming and editing
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design and video production tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud)
  • Experience managing projects, workflows, and deadlines in a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, * Experience in higher education, non-profits, or another mission-driven organization
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading creative staff or project teams
  • Familiarity with institutional marketing initiatives, such as enrollment, advancement, or fundraising campaigns
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices (e.g., ADA/WCAG)
  • Experience managing external creative partners such as freelance photographers, videographers, or agencies
