Job description
The SAP Master Data Steward is responsible for the governance, accuracy, and lifecycle management of Material Master data across SAP environments (ECC and/or S/4HANA). This role ensures high-quality master data for both purchased and manufactured materials and supports SAP deployments, data migration, and ongoing governance initiatives.
This position partners closely with Procurement, Production, Engineering, IT, and Data Governance teams to maintain data integrity and enable efficient supply chain operations.
Core Responsibilities Material Master Governance
- Review, validate, and approve new material creation and change requests.
- Create and maintain material master records (purchased and manufactured materials).
- Ensure proper setup of:
- Material types
- Plant extensions
- MRP views
- Accounting views
- Purchasing views
- Storage locations
- Support governance standards and enforce master data policies.
SAP & Data Quality Execution
- Perform ongoing data quality audits and validation checks.
- Execute data cleansing and retrofit activities pre- and post-SAP go-live.
- Support data migration activities from legacy systems into SAP.
- Coordinate dual maintenance activities during system cutovers.
- Partner with SAP migration and deployment teams during implementations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as liaison between business users and Data Governance.
- Provide guidance on master data field structure and interdependencies.
- Support rollout of new master data standards and governance frameworks.
- Monitor and manage material creation/extension backlog.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify root causes of data errors and recommend corrective actions.
- Drive process improvements to reduce recurring master data issues.
- Support authorization and data access cleanup in partnership with IT.
Requirements

3+ years of experience in SAP Material Master data management, stewardship, or governance.

Hands-on SAP experience (ECC or S/4HANA preferred).

Experience working with:
o Material Master o BOMs o Routings o PIRs o Source Lists
- Strong understanding of supply chain and procurement processes.
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, data validation).
- High attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to manage high-volume requests in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Associate degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing or production environments.
- SAP S/4HANA implementation or migration experience.
- Exposure to MRP, production planning, or cost accounting views.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, IT, Supply Chain, or related field.
