Job description

Execute engine hardware development and validation testing across multiple engine programs. Develop, implement, and execute first-time capable tests for hardware. Lead diagnosis and resolution of issues that occur during test setup, execution, and post-test investigations. Track and report test status, issues, and risks to support program milestones and decision making. Ensure all testing is conducted in accordance with GM safety, quality, and procedural standards.

Data, ToolsVirtualization Create, maintain, and utilize post-processing tools (e.g., MATLAB) to assure data quality and improve test efficiency. Analyze data to optimize test plans, reduce test time, and support virtual model development and correlation. Identify and implement data reduction opportunities, including standardization of data sets and automation of routine analysis tasks. Contribute to the migration of lab-based activities to virtual methods, partnering with analysis and virtualization teams.

CollaborationContinuous Improvement Collaborate with facilities, technical specialists, calibration teams, hardware release engineers, and other stakeholders to improve process and test efficiency. Participate in the pursuit of test reduction and elimination, working with design, analysis, and program teams to identify where physical testing can be streamlined, replaced, or virtualized. Support continuous improvement of standard work, procedures, and documentation for engine testing.

LeadershipMentoring Train, mentor, and develop new engineers and co-ops/rotators on bench operation, safety, and standard work. Provide technical guidance on engine hardware, test methods, and data interpretation to peers and partners.

Work description - Laboratory Testing Facility, PPE requirements to be on site and access areas of the facility

  • High level overview - they are responsible for running an engine in a variety of different test cells to test the engines lubrication and ventilation systems. 20 or so different tests they call "standard work" that they would run for a particular engine
  • Arrive at work, first thing is to check on the status of their tests.
  • Access the state of testing, confirm that the testing is going as planned and troubleshoot if it is not.
  • Working as a team to keep that testing moving forward.
  • Reporting out the status of their testing, what is going well and what is not.
  • Document what they have done through test reports.
  • Make sure the data is being collected correctly and analyze results.
  • Working in the dyno and might be doing some work in the component area

Requirements

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics

Years of experience: at least 2-4 years of experience, but prefers to see more

Must Haves

Engine dynamometer and test bench development/operation Planning, setting up, executing, and troubleshooting engine hardware development and validation tests including dyno and bench environments. Data acquisition, analysis, and tooling Proficiency with test data acquisition systems and creating/maintaining post processing tools for data quality checks, automation, data reduction, and model correlation/virtualization support. Applied engine systems knowledge (hardware + calibration context) Strong understanding of engine function, architecture, and subsystems, and how hardware and calibration interact, to design first time capable tests and interpret results for hardware performance and validation decisions.
