Job description
We are seeking a senior consultant to own day-to-day reliability, lifecycle management, and modernization of the VMware vSphere/Windows Server platforms and VMware (Omnissa) Horizon VDI environments supporting mission-critical control center operations. The role operates within a NERC CIP-regulated environment, executes disciplined changes with audit-ready evidence, collaborates across network, storage, security, and application teams, and responds rapidly to incidents impacting operational users., * Must have VDI (Omnissa/VMware Horizon) Ownership
- Administer Horizon infrastructure: Connection Servers, Unified Access Gateways (UAG), brokers, RSA/MFA, BLAST/PCoIP, certificate lifecycle, and gold image/baseline governance
- Manage instant-clone pools, entitlements/AD OU alignment, and profile/GPO/printer management for operational user groups across multiple environments
- Plan and execute Horizon upgrades (Connection Servers, Agents/Clients) via pilot waves with pre/post validation, tested rollback, CAB approvals, and post-implementation reviews (PIRs)
- Sustain stability via capacity/disk hygiene (recurring cleanups, datastore/pool thresholds); remediate disk-full and agent health issues; maintain clear SOPs for routine hygiene
- Monitor and optimize user experience (logon stage timing, session health, broker status); maintain actionable dashboards/alerts (e.g., Splunk) and reduce false positives
- Troubleshoot high-impact issues (login/connectivity, black screens, time/date sync, agent registration, clone provisioning) and drive vendor cases (Omnissa) to closure
Windows Server & VMware vSphere Platform
- Administer Windows Server (2019/2022/2025) builds, CIS/CIP hardening, GPOs, certificates, and patch cadence with rigorous pre/post validation and rollback plans
- Operate vSphere lifecycle: vCenter/ESXi patching and upgrades, maintenance mode/evacuation, driver/firmware alignment, DRS/HA/vSAN standards, certificate/NTP hygiene
- Author and execute RFCs with risk assessment, change windows, validation/backout, and PIRs; maintain audit-ready evidence and current SOPs/runbooks
- Coordinate cross-team dependencies (Network, Storage/Backup, Security, Application teams) and support planned maintenance windows and cutovers
Security, Compliance, and Change (NERC CIP)
- Maintain CIP-aligned practices for VDI and Windows/vSphere in scope (CIP-007/010/011): baseline/configuration monitoring, access reviews/revocations, password rotations (including NON-CIP VDI local admin rotations), and evidence packaging
- Conduct baseline reviews (TripWire) for in-scope systems, support Tanium reporting/IR tasks, and coordinate endpoint security deployments (e.g., Trend Micro) on VDI and servers
- Enforce change rigor (CAB), evidence quality gates, and timely response to audit/spot-check requests
Operations & Incident Response
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide rapid incident response for VDI/Windows/vSphere; lead problem management with durable corrective actions
- Maintain and expand SOPs/runbooks (upgrades, clone refresh, disk cleanup, time/date sync, certificate renewal, post-change validation); keep repositories current and accessible
- Partner with the incident response command center for IR/PR handling; provide concise executive-style updates (issue, resolution, next steps)
Active/Immediate Work to Assume
- Horizon license renewal tracking and risk management
- Platform migration request (e.g., LCD migration SR): finalize OS target, confirm dependencies, and validate completion
- Horizon/Windows OS upgrade activities across operational environments; align VM tools/hardware as required
- Recurring capacity/disk hygiene and agent health remediation across multiple sites
- Monitoring follow-ups
