  • Works cooperatively with Oakland Schools IT Leadership and district representatives to define AI and technology requirements generated by business and instructional strategies.
  • Leads the formation of cross-functional project teams (end users, vendors, developers, and executives) and provides direction across the design, development, testing, and implementation of AI-powered technologies.
  • Collaborates with end users and cross-functional stakeholders to design AI-augmented solutions to complex organizational needs, including advising on application development and AI integration.
  • Continuously evaluates emerging AI technologies and products, recommending strategic enhancements, integrations, and adoption pathways.
  • Partner with Technology Services to shape and advance the architecture of AI-enabled enterprise systems, ensuring integrated approaches to development, deployment, professional development, and ongoing support.
  • Drives the development and recommendation of AI and instructional software standards in partnership with department leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy, governance, and technical standards.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of operational plans, programs, systems, AI technologies, operating procedures, and record-keeping related to AI initiatives.
  • Oversees assigned AI-related functions to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (eg, data privacy and security) and alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Contributes to bid processes by developing specifications, reviewing proposals and quotes, and recommending contract awards in alignment with organizational needs.
  • Participates in educational, professional, and governmental committees and meetings related to AI, educational technology, and digital innovation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience, or a related field required.
  • Practical experience with AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex) and accessing model APIs.
  • Proven ability to explain technical risks and opportunities to executive leadership and educational staff.
  • Familiarity with educational data standards (Ed-Fi, OneRoster, LTI).
