Job description
This is one of the first three engineering hires at a 5-person company backed by a $20M Seed from Sequoia and Jump Trading - one of the largest creators of trading volume in global crypto, alongside roughly 80 of the best crypto traders in the world as angels. The company has already privately processed hundreds of millions of dollars in volume, with institutional interest from the likes of Coinbase and Citadel. This is not a pre-revenue bet.
The mission: build the infrastructure that lets anyone with a sophisticated financial thesis act on it directly - across any asset class - without hedge funds, prop desks, or armies of intermediaries in the way. You'll own the product surface end to end: from the natural language interface where a user types their thesis, to the agent loop that turns it into a tested strategy, to the execution rails that settle it.
These are genuinely hard engineering problems. This is not a chatbot wrapper. You're building real-time intent parsing, multi-asset trade execution engines, and agentic pipelines that handle live financial positions at scale. The founders haven't built internal playbooks yet - they want someone who has built them elsewhere and wants to bring them here. Most decisions don't have a predefined correct answer, and that's the point.
What You'll Do
- Own a product surface end to end - pick an asset class (equities, commodities, prediction markets) and build its entire integration into the AI-native layer from scratch
- Build real-time intent parsing infrastructure and multi-asset trade execution systems
- Develop and maintain agentic pipelines that handle live financial positions at scale
- Shape engineering culture, technical architecture, and product direction as a founding team member
- Work directly with both founders daily on genuinely open-ended problems
Why This Seat
- $20M Seed from Sequoia + Jump Trading, ~80 elite crypto traders as angels, institutional interest from Coinbase and Citadel already in place - hundreds of millions in private volume processed
- Deliberately low dilution round - more equity on offer for the right candidates
- Offers above $600K base have already been made; compensation is not a constraint for the right person
- At 5 people, you're a founding team member in the truest sense - you shape engineering culture and company direction from day one
- Founders who built at Jane Street and co-founded companies with top-tier operators at the frontier of AI
Requirements
- Have 5+ years as a backend-leaning engineer at a high-pedigree, talent-dense startup (think Linear, Vercel, Cursor, Ramp caliber)
- Have owned a 0-to-1 product surface at an early-stage company and know what it means to build without a playbook
- Have strong TypeScript and Python fundamentals and can own complex distributed systems end to end
- Have a public artifact trail - open source, side projects, things you built because you needed them to exist
- Thrive in ambiguity and treat "the answer isn't given to you" as a feature, not a bug
Nice-to-Haves
- Background in trading platforms (Robinhood, Public), prediction markets (Kalshi), or data-driven infra (Datadog, Palantir)
- Experience with payments infrastructure (Square, Block, Stripe) - deep understanding of how money actually moves
- CS or technical STEM degree from a top 20 university
- Competitive programming background or strong algorithmic fundamentals, * 5+ years as a backend-leaning engineer at a high-pedigree, talent-dense startup
- Demonstrated track record of 0-to-1 product ownership - not scoped execution in a large eng org
- Able to work on-site in Palo Alto, CA (relocation support available)
Benefits & conditions
- $200K-$650K base salary - a real range with offers already made at the top end
- Significant founding equity at deliberately low dilution
- Full ownership of a product surface from day one
- A 5-person team where you work directly with founders every day
- Palo Alto HQ in a collaborative, in-person environment
