Job description
The Software Engineer II role is responsible for building the tools that power our freight platform. The Engineer II has a passion for tackling hard problems. A veteran who knows how to get things done and how-to future-proof our architecture and implementations to scale for years to come. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the definition, vision, design, roadmap, and development of all systems at U.S. Xpress., * Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.

Own the development lifecycle with a focus on developing new features and functionalities for assigned software applications.

Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables.

Write high quality distributed system software.

Work in an agile development environment, always working on the most important projects.

Requirements
Do you have experience in Unit testing?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science plus 3 years of relevant professional experience or Master's degree in a related field plus 1 year of relevant professional experience required
Experience
- Experience with at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, Go or C#) and unit testing
- Experience in debugging in shell and AWS
- Experience with AWS services (IAM, S3, Dynamo)
- Previous experience in mentoring junior engineers or leading small tasks within a team
- Previous experience in creating technical documentation
- Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech industry experience a plus
Skills & Abilities
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team
- Owned simple applications or modules, ensuring the code is maintained using best practices
- Created and maintained documentation for functions within the code to ensure clarity and maintainability
- Familiarity with common debugging tools and techniques
- Adept at assessing organizational dynamics and managing change
- Works quickly and efficiently. Able to test solutions, learn, and iterate quickly
- Proactive and pragmatic problem solver
- Communicates effectively across multiple mediums
