The Platform Engineer will be an active, hands-on contributor during a period of business restructure, supporting the implementation and modernisation of the company's cloud infrastructure and platform services. The role focuses on improving reliability, performance, scalability, security and developer experience, enabling engineering teams to deliver software quickly and safely. You will work closely with platform and engineering teams to implement agreed designs, owning platform components across build, operation and continuous improvement, and using automation and modern practices to reduce toil and accelerate delivery. We are primarily Azure-based, with a small footprint in AWS.
What you'll be doing to make a difference:
Build and run internal platform infrastructure
- Build, operate and maintain resilient, scalable platform foundations across environments, working from agreed designs and standards.
Operate cloud infrastructure and automation
- Support and run services on Azure and AWS, applying least-privilege access, audited controls and automation as standard.
Improve developer experience
- Implement deployment workflows, self-service capabilities, golden paths and reusable templates that help teams ship safely and efficiently.
Infrastructure as Code
- Implement and maintain infrastructure using Terraform, with modular, DRY patterns, appropriate testing and CI/CD integration.
Platform reliability, scalability and security
- Apply SRE principles in day-to-day work, supporting capacity planning, reliability improvements and secure-by-default patterns.
Observability and incident response
- Implement logging, metrics and tracing.
Create dashboards and alerts.
- Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
Cross-team collaboration
- Work closely with development, security and operations teams to deliver platform capabilities, execute agreed priorities and manage operational risk effectively., * Hands on experience operating and supporting workloads on Azure or AWS, including troubleshooting and production support.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Terraform?, * Solid understanding of microservices based and distributed systems, and how they are deployed using containerised, serverless and VM based models.
- Experience implementing and operating Terraform in multi zone production environments, using modular, DRY designs, secure state backends, and working with both greenfield and existing (brownfield) infrastructure.
- Good understanding of container lifecycles, image creation, networking and secure deployment automation.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar) covering build, test, security scanning, Terraform deployments, and secure artifact and secret management.
- Comfortable scripting in PowerShell and/or Bash.
- Experience with observability stacks such as Azure Monitor, ELK, Prometheus or Grafana.
- Includes alerting best practices and troubleshooting using logs, metrics and traces.
Tech Stack- Containerisation, microservices, Terrarform, Azure, AWS, GitHub actions, * Familiarity with Kubernetes is a plus.
- Experience with a general-purpose language such as Python is beneficial.
- Familiarity with SLOs, SLIs and SLAs is desirable.
Experience with GitOps workflows and tools such as Argo CD or Flux, including environment promotion and drift management.
