Job description

The Technical Product Support Engineer (TPSE) is a key member of Onto Innovation's technical support organization, responsible for delivering expert-level technical support to internal and external customers. This role has primary responsibility for system maintenance, uptime, and availability of semiconductor capital equipment installed in the PACE (Panel Applications Center of Excellence) facility in Wilmington, MA.

In addition to on-site system ownership, the TPSE provides remote technical product support and escalation assistance to the global field service organization. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Onto Innovation semiconductor tools and platforms and will clearly articulate technical findings, support decisions, and plans of action. This position directly impacts customer satisfaction, tool availability, and service effectiveness.

Roles and Responsibilities

PACE Facility Equipment Ownership

Maintain operational readiness, availability, and performance of Onto Innovation systems installed in the PACE facility.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, system recoveries, and configuration changes in a cleanroom environment.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, electro-mechanical, and system-level issues.

Support internal demonstrations, experiments, customer evaluations, and development activities conducted within the PACE facility.

Maintain accurate service records, configurations, and documentation for installed systems.

Technical Product Support & Escalations

Provide expert-level hardware and system support through the escalation process for Onto Innovation tools.

Support Field Service Engineers through remote diagnostics, root cause analysis, and recovery planning.

Develop and clearly communicate plans of action, findings, and results to internal stakeholders and customer-facing teams.

Provide occasional on-site field service support in a Field Service Engineer capacity as needed.

Product Improvement & New Product Introduction

Drive continuous improvement of product supportability through documentation updates and development.

Provide structured feedback to design and engineering teams on quality, reliability, and serviceability issues.

Participate in New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.

Support development and validation of service documentation and qualification criteria during NPI.

Training & Knowledge Sharing

Provide on-the-job technical training and mentoring to Field Service Engineers.

Serve as a technical resource for cross-functional teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electronics, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent military technical experience).

Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience supporting semiconductor capital equipment.

Demonstrated system-level troubleshooting experience with complex electro-mechanical tools.

Experience supporting high-value CAPEX equipment in cleanroom manufacturing environments.

Experience with lithography, inspection, metrology, advanced packaging, or panel-level manufacturing equipment preferred.

Technical & Professional Skills

Strong hardware and system troubleshooting skills.

Proficient with PCs, diagnostic tools, and Microsoft Office.

Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally.

Physical & Travel Requirements

Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

Ability to access serviceable areas of equipment in a cleanroom environment.

Ability to frequently move components or diagnostic equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Willingness and ability to travel 15-25%, domestically and internationally.

Must possess appropriate travel authorization as required.

Compensation & Growth

Base Salary Range: $77,840.00 - $116,760.00, offered in good faith and based on experience, location, and qualifications.
