# A Hands-On Guide to Writing Smart Contracts Like You Write Software

## Description

What if writing smart contracts felt like writing modern backend software? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll build your first smart contract using WebAssembly and Rust. No Solidity required, no special tooling to learn.

We’ll walk through writing, testing, and deploying contracts in a fully configured containerized environment using familiar libraries, clear patterns, and strong typing. You’ll also connect your contracts to a frontend and explore how they work interoperably with other contracts written with more niche blockchain-specific libraries.

Smart contracts don’t have to mean context-switching into niche languages and stripped-down tooling. This workshop will show how to apply your existing software skills to on-chain development without starting from scratch.
