The new Temporal API in JavaScript - **Event:** World Congress 2026 Europe - Virtual Stage ## Description Anyone who has ever worked with dates in JavaScript knows the truth: the Date API is a nightmare. For far too long, however, it was our only native option for managing date and time objects. That era is finally coming to an end with the arrival of the Temporal API. With Firefox 139 leading the charge in May 2025 and Chrome 144 following suit in January 2026, the path to widespread adoption is now wide open. In this session, we will explore why a replacement for the legacy Date class is desperately needed, how Temporal came to be this replacement, and how to use it to reliably work with datetimes without third-party libraries such as Moment or Luxon. ## Speaker ### [Marco Sieben](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/@marco-sieben) Software Engineer @ andrena objects ag ## Related talks at this congress - [The Time Paradox: Building Timezone-Safe Python/Django Applications](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/events/world-congress-2026-europe-virtual-stage/sessions/1626-the-time-paradox) — Denny Biasiolli - [How We Waste Time Building APIs — and the Moment DDD Starts to Matter](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/events/world-congress-2026-europe-virtual-stage/sessions/1556-how-we-waste-time) — Jacek Milewski - [Why Is Software Documentation Still Static – And Why Modern Browsers Deserve Better](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/events/world-congress-2026-europe-virtual-stage/sessions/1644-why-is-software) — André Dietrich, Jihad Hyadi - [JavaScript?
