This is a hybrid Solutions Engineering and Detailed Engineering role spanning three core areas of responsibility: customer-facing technical engagement (~40%), BOM ownership and detailed engineering (~35%), and manufacturing process development and continuous improvement (~25%). Depending on the customer, this role collaborates on design or works directly from customer-provided designs, requiring deep fluency in ILA shelter internal architecture to review, validate, and translate customer engineering intent into accurate BOMs, assembly documentation, and manufacturable configurations., Solutions Engineering / Customer-Facing (~40%) * Serves as the primary technical interface with fiber infrastructure customers - leading design reviews, clarifying ILA shelter architecture and configuration requirements, and engaging credibly with customer engineering teams on DC power, grounding, cabling, and subsystem layout. * Interprets and validates customer-provided engineering packages - including drawings, single-line diagrams, and configuration specs - ensuring designs are manufacturable, complete, and aligned with internal assembly and quality standards before build initiation. * Manages configuration change requests throughout the project lifecycle, evaluates technical impact, and communicates disposition clearly to both customer and internal stakeholders. * Identifies and documents technical risks associated with customer design decisions, component substitutions, and configuration changes - providing recommendations and mitigations to protect build quality and schedule. BOM Ownership & Detailed Engineering (~35%) * Owns component-level specification - selecting exact part numbers for compression lugs, power cables, fiber patch cords, rack hardware, and mechanical fittings - based on customer drawings and ILA shelter architecture requirements. * Owns the full BOM lifecycle - developing and validating detailed engineering BOMs from customer-provided drawings and single-line diagrams, managing the ECO process, and ensuring all changes are immediately reflected in the master BOM. * Governs all detailed engineering documentation - including assembly standards, work instructions, cable management specs, and configuration documentation - maintaining revision control across all ILA shelter configurations. Manufacturing Process Development & Improvement (~25%) * Maintains technical ownership of all ILA shelter subsystems (HVAC, Generator, ATS, Battery plant, Fuse panels, BDCBB, grounding, DC power cabling) - evaluating configurations from a factory assembly perspective to ensure build readiness and process alignment. * Partners with Assembly Manufacturing team to co-develop work instructions, quality control manual, engineering documentations and other standard document packages for electromechanical assemblies. * Provides consultation on continuous improvement focused on measurable outcomes - reducing assembly labor hours, improving first-pass quality, decreasing material waste, and increasing build consistency. Actively identifies and implements process and workflow improvements, including AI-enabled solutions, to enhance efficiency and business outcomes. Managerial Responsibility * This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. Travel/Shift Requirements * + This position may require up to 25% travel for customer site visits, design reviews, and shelter configuration validation. Physical Demands * + This position is primarily performed in an office and manufacturing floor environment. No hands-on assembly is required. Occasional walking of the production floor for design review and process observation may be required. ## Related Videos - [Unlocking the potential of Digital & IT at Vodafone](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/602-unlocking-the-potential-of-digital-it-at-vodafone) - [Independently together: how micro-applications improve developer experience + app performance](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/452-independently-together-how-micro-applications-improve-developer-experience-app-performance) - [Model Based Systems Engineering in an Agile Product Development Process](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/68-model-based-systems-engineering-in-an-agile-product-development-process) - [What makes Cybersecurity different for critical infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/571-what-makes-cybersecurity-different-for-critical-infrastructure) - [Replacing Excel with SAP APIs & Python validation](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1944-replacing-excel-with-sap-apis-python-validation) - [Automated Driving - Why is it so hard to introduce](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/628-automated-driving-why-is-it-so-hard-to-introduce) ## Related Articles - [Best US AI Conferences for CTOs in 2026: Build vs. Buy, Vendor Evaluation, and Peer Intelligence](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/736-best-us-ai-conferences-for-ctos-in-2026-build-vs-buy-vendor-evaluation-and-peer-intelligence) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [What Makes WeAreDevelopers World Congress Different From Every Other Tech Event?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/701-what-makes-wearedevelopers-world-congress-different-from-every-other-tech-event) - [IT Salaries in Germany](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/287-it-salaries-in-germany) - [Why Attend a Developer Event in 2026?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/688-why-attend-a-developer-event-in-2026)
