Candidates without a formal legal background but with 5+ years of deep, hands-on market data licensing experience will equally be considered. * 3-6 years of experience working in the market data space - ideally from within a data vendor (e.g. SIX, FactSet, ICE, Bloomberg, Refinitiv/LSEG), exchange, or the market data function of a financial institution or fintech. * Strong working knowledge of exchange licensing frameworks, redistribution rights, derived data rules, and direct reporting obligations. You understand what it means to be on both sides of a licensing agreement. * You can run a commercial negotiation from term sheet to signature, hold your ground with vendor counterparts, and know when to push and when to compromise. * You understand how market data is distributed - entitlement systems, data feeds, APIs - and can engage credibly with Product and Engineering teams when evaluating new provider integrations or data delivery architectures. * You are detail-driven, documentation-oriented, and capable of bringing order to a complex, multi-provider licensing landscape. * Fluency in English. German is a plus but not required. * Location: Based in Berlin (mandatory). ## Description Upvest is growing fast - and so is our market data footprint. As we expand our product offering and onboard more clients across Europe, the complexity of our market data licensing, redistribution rights, and provider relationships has grown with it. We work with a broad set of data sources - from real-time market data providers to static asset data suppliers and direct exchange relationships - and we need someone to own that landscape end-to-end. As our first Data Governance Manager, you will be the single owner of Upvest's entire market data governance function. You will manage our relationships with market data providers, negotiate and maintain our licensing agreements, ensure our redistribution arrangements are compliant and commercially sound, and advise the business on what's possible as we bring new products and asset classes to market. Reporting to the Head of Network, this role sits at the intersection of legal, commercial, and technical - and it requires someone who is genuinely fluent in all three. If you've spent years navigating the licensing complexity of the market data world and want to build something from the ground up at one of Europe's most exciting fintechs, this is the role for you. What you'll do: * Own the end-to-end relationship with Upvest's market data and static asset data providers. * Lead commercial negotiations independently and end-to-end, from initial terms through to signature and renewal. * Ensure that Upvest's redistribution of market data to B2B clients is properly licensed across all use cases and client types. * Fulfill entitlement and usage reporting obligations to direct reporting exchanges and data sources. Maintain accurate records of Upvest's data consumption and distribution to support audit readiness at all times. * Act as the expert voice on market data licensing for internal teams advising on what data products clients can access, at what cost, and under what licensing conditions. * Lead the assessment, selection, and onboarding of new market data providers and exchanges as Upvest expands into new asset classes and markets. * Establish and maintain best-practice governance processes for market data management * Identify cost-saving opportunities through licence renegotiation, consolidation, or usage optimisation. * Monitor policy and commercial changes from exchanges and vendors, assess their impact on Upvest, and proactively communicate material developments to relevant stakeholders. * Provide support in the management of other Network partners where needed, working closely with the Head of Network to ensure consistent partner oversight across the team., * Best-in-class AI tools: Every Upvenger has €20,000 per year to spend on the best AI tools available - so you're always working with the most powerful models and tooling on the market. * Impact-driven work: We're building the infrastructure that will power the future of investing in Europe. It's complex, ambitious, and meaningful. You'll work with modern technologies and create something entirely new. No legacy systems, no limits. * Wellbeing: Recharge with 30 days of annual leave and maintain a healthy lifestyle with sports benefits. Access confidential professional coaching and enjoy the flexibility to work remotely abroad for up to 183 days a year. Recharge with UpRest, a one-month fully paid sabbatical after every 4 years of working at Upvest. * Development: Growth is in our DNA. Each Upvenger has access to a personal development budget and the freedom to decide how to use it. * Flexible work environment: Work from any of our hubs in Berlin, London or Tallinn hybrid or remotely across Europe, depending on the role. We give you the choice and budget to work where you're most comfortable and productive, either at home or in the office. You choose. * Compensation and equity: We believe that all Upvengers contribute to our success and deserve a competitive, above-market salary and a participation in our employee equity program. * Team celebrations: Participate in company-wide events, such as UpFest, dinners, offsites and our Holiday party, to connect with colleagues and celebrate our achievements. * Inclusion: We're committed to a culture where everyone belongs and thrives. Our Employee Resources Groups foster inclusion and connection, like Upfem for our female Upvengers, or UpVergent supporting neurodivergent Upvengers and allies. ## Related Videos - [The Future of Recruiting: Innovations and Challenges in the European IT Sector](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1056-the-future-of-recruiting-innovations-and-challenges-in-the-european-it-sector) - [How to TDD in legacy code](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/309-how-to-tdd-in-legacy-code) - [Implementing continuous delivery in a data processing pipeline](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/73-implementing-continuous-delivery-in-a-data-processing-pipeline) - [Europe's Regulatory Paradox: Burden, Barrier or Competitive Advantage?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100347-europe-s-regulatory-paradox-burden-barrier-or-competitive-advantage) - [Getting to Know Your Legacy (System) with AI-Driven Software Archeology](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1437-getting-to-know-your-legacy-system-with-ai-driven-software-archeology) - [Why and when should we consider Stream Processing frameworks in our solutions](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1085-why-and-when-should-we-consider-stream-processing-frameworks-in-our-solutions) ## Related Articles - [The Biggest German Tech Companies](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/424-the-biggest-german-tech-companies) - [Finding Jobs in Germany](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/375-finding-jobs-in-germany) - [Jobs in Germany for Americans](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/423-jobs-in-germany-for-americans) - [Data Analyst Salary Germany](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/277-data-analyst-salary-germany) - [Where to Find German Tech Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/366-where-to-find-german-tech-jobs) - [How to Find Tech Jobs in Berlin](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/291-how-to-find-tech-jobs-in-berlin)
