In this role, you own a service or domain end-to-end - design, implementation, tests, and the controls that prove it works - making sound design calls within the platform architecture. You're a go-to for hard backend problems, you mentor less-senior engineers, and you have a strong drive to ship working software. The Sr. Backend Engineer's responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Design and build backend services in our Python stack: APIs, data models, migrations, async/eventing, and the integrations that feed the platform. * Own a domain end-to-end - from design through tested, observable, production-ready code, with the quality controls that back it up. * Build and harden third-party integrations (wearables, clinical data): OAuth, webhooks, retries, idempotency, token refresh. * Own your domain's reliability: instrument it (metrics, traces, logs), define and defend its SLOs, write actionable alarms, and take a turn on-call. Contribute to the infrastructure that runs it (Terraform / AWS). * Raise the quality bar: meaningful tests, good reviews, and safety/privacy treated as design inputs (encryption, least-privilege, PHI handling). * Mentor mid-level engineers and lift the team's standards. * Use AI coding agents to move fast - and verify and own what they produce. ## Related Videos - [Meet Your New BFF: Backend to Frontend without the Duct Tape](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/682-meet-your-new-bff-backend-to-frontend-without-the-duct-tape) - [Keeping applications secure by evolving OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100152-keeping-applications-secure-by-evolving-oauth-2-0-and-openid-connect) - [Flutter Packages and Plugins - A Look Under the Hood](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/555-flutter-packages-and-plugins-a-look-under-the-hood) - [Using Serious Tech for a Silly Game - How to Build an MVP with Flutter](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/728-using-serious-tech-for-a-silly-game-how-to-build-an-mvp-with-flutter) - [Intro to Flutter Development](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/170-intro-to-flutter-development) - [Writing truly cross plattform applications using flutter](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/456-writing-truly-cross-plattform-applications-using-flutter) ## Related Articles - [Basic And Advanced Networking in Dart and Flutter](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/112-basic-and-advanced-networking-in-dart-and-flutter) - [The 7 Most Popular Backend Frameworks for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/403-the-7-most-popular-backend-frameworks-for-developers) - [What’s the Difference Between Frontend and Backend Development?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/240-what-s-the-difference-between-frontend-and-backend-development) - [Dev Digest 120 - Apple and peers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/455-dev-digest-120-apple-and-peers) - [20 Essential Tools For Backend Development](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/218-20-essential-tools-for-backend-development) - [Why Upskilling And Reskilling is Important For Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/428-why-upskilling-and-reskilling-is-important-for-developers)
