Agent guide: [/agents.md](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/agents.md). --- # Data Scientist I - Applied AI - **Company:** Kansas City National Security Campus - **Location:** Kansas City, MO, United States (Remote available) - **Experience:** Starter - **Contract:** Permanent contract - **Skills:** Artificial Intelligence, Automation of Tests, Business Software, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Integration, Data Cleansing, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Runbook, Software Engineering, Systems Architecture, User-Centered Design, Large Language Models, Generative AI, Integration Tests, Data Management, Software Version Control - **Published:** July 9, 2026 - **Apply:** https://www.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=297275a6a61f5ba6 ## About the Role * BS in engineering from ABET accredited institution or Bachelor of Science degree in data science or related field, or two years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. * Ability to travel as determined by the needs of the business * Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business * Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job * United States Citizenship * Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations) We Value * Demonstrated software-engineering discipline: version control, unit/integration testing, continuous integration-continuous deployment (CI/CD), and documentation of code and system architecture. * Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) to convey technical concepts to stakeholders, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and produce clear technical specifications and run-books. * Proven ability to create actionable visualizations and dashboards that show model performance, data quality, and operational metrics for end-users and decision-makers. * Solid understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). * This job description/job posting is not all inclusive and other duties may be assigned. ## Description The Data Scientist I - Applied AI position contributes to the end-to-end design, development, operationalization, and on-going support of advanced artificial intelligence solutions for manufacturing and business applications., * Develop data science models or algorithms using disciplined software development processes, making recommendations for developing new code or re-using existing code, implementing version control and maintaining documentation of created applications. * Contribute to AI/ML models and algorithms using disciplined software-engineering practices, including version control, automated testing, and thorough documentation. * Support design, build, and maintenance of production-grade pipelines for model training, validation, deployment, and monitoring, applying CI/CD and containerization principles. * Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to translate business needs into AI system specifications, define service-level objectives, and provide technical guidance to data-science partners. * Support the ingestion, data preparation, curation, and governance of large, multi-faceted data sets supporting analytics models and workflows. * Contribute to the production of information products, supporting visualization and data accessibility in a customer centric manner. * Evaluate and make recommendations regarding technical advances that improve productivity and quality, reduce flow times, and enhance operational surety. * May assist in development of guidelines and standards for analytics and machine learning models, their deployment, and associated governance processes. * Complete assignments with detailed instructions in the design and/or project management of new and current projects under technical guidance of higher level engineers or departmental management. * Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment. Takes actions necessary to 'stop' work when an unsafe condition or action is identified.
