The Hampton School IT Services department delivers enterprise-quality technology services within an educational environment. Our purpose is to provide highly reliable IT services through exceptional customer service whilst continually improving the School's technology environment.We believe technology should enable teaching, learning and the wider operation of the School without becoming a distraction. Alongside maintaining operational excellence, every member of the department contributes to moving the School forward through planned improvements, well-managed projects and continual development of our services.The department combines exceptional customer service with technical expertise, ensuring reliable day-to-day operations whilst delivering meaningful technology improvements each year. The Junior Infrastructure Engineer supports the delivery, maintenance and continual improvement of Hampton School's enterprise infrastructure whilst developing the knowledge and practical experience required to progress into a Senior Infrastructure Engineer role. Working closely with the Infrastructure Manager and Senior Infrastructure Engineer, the role combines first and second-line support with increasing responsibility for infrastructure administration, technical change and engineering activities.The role provides a structured development pathway, enabling the post holder to build enterprise infrastructure skills whilst contributing to the reliability, security and continual improvement of the School's technology environment. The IT office supports just over 470 employees at both Hampton School and Hampton Pre-Prep and Prep School and you will have the opportunity to work with new and emerging technologies., Infrastructure Support & Engineering * Support the maintenance and day-to-day operation of the School's enterprise infrastructure * Assist with server, identity, backup, networking and endpoint administration under the guidance of the Infrastructure Manager and Senior Infrastructure Engineer * Carry out routine maintenance, health checks and operational tasks in accordance with departmental standards * Develop technical knowledge through practical engineering experience. Technical Support * Provide first and second-line support where required, assisting colleagues in delivering a responsive IT service * Investigate and resolve technical issues using departmental documentation and established procedures * Escalate infrastructure issues with appropriate troubleshooting information * Support device deployments, infrastructure installations and technical rollouts. Projects & Continuous Improvement * Assist with infrastructure projects, lifecycle refreshes and technology improvements * Participate in testing, implementation and documentation of technical changes * Identify opportunities to improve reliability efficiency and operational processes. * Contribute to maintaining accurate technical documentation. Professional Development * Follow a structured development plan towards the Senior Infrastructure Engineer role * Work alongside senior engineers to develop enterprise infrastructure skills * Actively undertake training, research and practical learning opportunities * Share knowledge and contribute positively to the wider IT team., Training will be provided in a controlled manner and will predominately involve shadowing when working on live systems. The school expects the successful candidate to demonstrate commitment to supporting the department and their professional development. Structured commitment will aid greater development. To attend INSET training outside the school where appropriate to increase competence, proficiency and safety awareness.
