You must be ready to own your technical domain, managing classified/unclassified labs and ensuring Software-in-the-Loop (SWIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) environment readiness to shape the future of naval warfare technology. The ideal candidate will be expected to engineer with Excellence, serve with Integrity, and approach every problem with a drive to Get Things Done. The Senior System Administrator provides advanced infrastructure engineering, network design, and systems leadership for Department of the Navy modeling and simulation (M&S), training, and other information systems ensuring maximum uptime, scalability, and operational readiness. This role architects and oversees Software-in-the-Loop (SWIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) environments, driving configuration control and mentoring junior technical staff. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, operating systems, network switches, and storage arrays; managing user access and virtualization environments; and overseeing configuration control for complex lab baselines. While system uptime and readiness are the primary focus, the role also ensures systems meet necessary DOD and Navy security baselines by applying operating system patches, implementing DISA STIGs, and maintaining required CSWF certifications. ## Related Videos - [How Cisco embraced a DevOps culture within its network engineering team](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/99-how-cisco-embraced-a-devops-culture-within-its-network-engineering-team) - [What makes Cybersecurity different for critical infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/571-what-makes-cybersecurity-different-for-critical-infrastructure) - [DevOps at Netflix](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/270-devops-at-netflix) - [Docker network without Docker](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1418-docker-network-without-docker) - [Security Pitfalls for Software Engineers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/726-security-pitfalls-for-software-engineers) - [Leading with Reliability: Applying SRE Principles to Build Stronger Engineering Organizations](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100185-leading-with-reliability-applying-sre-principles-to-build-stronger-engineering-organizations) ## Related Articles - [What Are The Top Skills Required For Azure Developers?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/77-what-are-the-top-skills-required-for-azure-developers) - [Is Software Engineering Over-Saturated?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/418-is-software-engineering-over-saturated) - [Dev Digest 134 - Where pixels sing?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/477-dev-digest-134-where-pixels-sing) - [System change: restart as developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/39-system-change-restart-as-developer) - [Highest Paying Tech Companies for Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/220-highest-paying-tech-companies-for-developers) - [What’s the Difference between a Junior, Mid, and Senior Developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/238-what-s-the-difference-between-a-junior-mid-and-senior-developer)
