Experience in owner's engineering design reviews of electric power projects. Experience with performance testing of thermal energy plants. Detailed understanding of power station operation and maintenance. Excellent technical communication and writing skills. Familiarity with design codes and standards. Thermal modeling of conventional generation power plants using Thermoflow or similar software (e.g., GateCycle, EBSILON, IPSEpro). Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in Engineering work. Minimum of 11 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. ## Description Perform thermal modeling of conventional generation power plants using Thermoflow software. Participate as mechanical lead in feasibility studies and development support for new power projects including the areas of biofuels and hydrogen. Support power generation project owners and developers for new thermal energy projects. Perform owner's engineer design reviews of mechanical systems for power projects. Prepare and review other engineering deliverables such as reports, studies, and calculations. Evaluate new power and infrastructure projects to support financing. Procurement of major power plant equipment, upgrades, maintenance, and service agreements. Interface with clients to understand requests and confirm successful project execution. Monitor project schedules and budgets. Support proposals for new business development opportunities. Execute performance testing of new & existing thermal plants. Participate in condition assessments of existing power plants. Provide technical support for carbon capture studies. The Team The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team that delivers high quality, on time design and services projects in the areas of Power, Gas, Fuels & Chemicals, Water and Waste Water, Data Centers, and Mining including everything Mechanically related to Process and Power (from Conventional, Combined Heat and Power, Hydro, Hydrogen, Nuclear, Solar/Renewable, LNG, Ammonia, Fertilizer) projects to specialized Air Quality Control, HVAC, Fire Protection, Piping, Thermal and Renewable performance estimating and testing. The Thermal Performance team at Black & Veatch supports EPC projects and many different types of Services projects including technical selections, feasibility and conceptual design studies, equipment procurement, and performance testing for conventional and emerging technology power plants ensuring high standards and innovative solutions for clients. The U.S. based group has a staff of 15 professionals located in several locations around the country., Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary. Work Environment/Physical Demands This position would require working in a typical office environment. The position may entail prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, and the professional would ideally be able to maintain focus and attention to detail throughout the workday. The position may also require physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
