This role is not just another DBA. We're looking for someone who: * Owns our database stack and general data flows technically and operationally; * Can get hands dirty - optimize queries, monitor performance, tune resources; * Drives cross-engineering education and enablement - helping backend devs level up their DB hygiene; * Brings architecture-level thinking to design resilient, cost-efficient, and scalable data solutions, including caching, streams, SQL and No-SQL solutions. What will you do in this role? Hands-On Ownership * Operate and improve our PostgreSQL clusters running on AWS RDS and Aurora; * Analyze and optimize complex queries, indexes, and schemas; * Advise on and improve our No-SQL and caching solutions, primarily Redis/Valkey; * Operate and maintain our stream and events platforms using NATS and RabbitMQ; * Monitor data platforms health (slow queries, replication lag, resource utilization) and tune performance; * Collaborate with Platform and Product engineers on observability, alerting and backups. Architecture & Engineering Leadership * Design and advocate for scalable DB schemas and solutions in a microservices environment as well as for larger applications; * Work closely with feature teams on data design patterns, DB scaling challenges, read/write strategies and data migrations; * Guide decisions around caching, partitioning, denormalization, replication, etc.; * Control usage of the right data tools for the right job, such as NoSQL datastores and event systems. Cross-Engineering Enablement * Be a driving force of "DB Engineering Enablement" program for engineering teams; * Training, playbooks, checklists, 'DB Hygiene 101' guidelines; * Act as a trusted advisor to Engineers in feature teams; * Evangelize performance awareness and operational excellence for data platforms. Collaboration & Innovation * Work with our Platform and Product Engineering teams to ensure data reliability, performance, and scalability; * Influence our long-term data architecture strategy, including tooling, observability, and cost-efficiency; * Stay on top of emerging PostgreSQL and AWS RDS capabilities, bringing innovative practices to the team., No bullshit: we don't like big egos; we like honesty, transparency & openness. Share your mistakes with us and learn from them! Grow & Win: Keep on learning and improving from each other mistakes and by actively searching for ways to keep on developing your skills. Have fun: you are not afraid to be yourself, and you love to be surrounded by your awesome colleagues! ## Related Videos - [Leveraging Real time data in FSIs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/806-leveraging-real-time-data-in-fsis) - [How a Small Team Shrank a Microsoft Monorepo by 94%](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1236-how-a-small-team-shrank-a-microsoft-monorepo-by-94) - [Reducing LLM Calls with Vector Search Patterns - Raphael De Lio (Redis)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1714-reducing-llm-calls-with-vector-search-patterns-raphael-de-lio-redis) - [Postgres in the Age of AI (and Devin)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1042-postgres-in-the-age-of-ai-and-devin) - [Tomorrow's cloud data platforms - fully managed database-as-a-service (DBaaS)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/254-tomorrow-s-cloud-data-platforms-fully-managed-database-as-a-service-dbaas) - [NoSQL Data Modeling for Front-end Developers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/297-nosql-data-modeling-for-front-end-developers) ## Related Articles - [Software Developer Salary in The Netherlands [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/217-software-developer-salary-in-the-netherlands-2023) - [Making Data Warehouses Fast: A Developer’s Story](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/107-making-data-warehouses-fast-a-developer-s-story) - [Data Engineer Salary UK](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/253-data-engineer-salary-uk) - [Best Companies in the Netherlands: Top 25 Companies in 2023 ](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/193-best-companies-in-the-netherlands-top-25-companies-in-2023) - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [Backend Developer Salary in Germany [2023]](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/196-backend-developer-salary-in-germany-2023)
