Proven experience designing and building RESTful and/or event-driven APIs and integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms. Experience building services and integrations that read from and/or write to Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse, with practical understanding of how to use it effectively. Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one modern backend language and ecosystem (e.g., C#/.NET, Java, Node.js, or similar). Demonstrated experience leading complex technical projects from concept and requirements through estimation, execution, launch, and support. Experience guiding other developers through code review, technical standards, and hands-on mentorship, including working effectively with offshore or nearshore engineers - without stepping away from writing code yourself. Familiarity with modern DevOps and cloud practices (Git-based workflows, CI/CD, environment promotion, basic infrastructure and monitoring concepts). Experience in high-growth, evolving environments (PE-backed, startup, or similar) where processes and structures needed to be created or scaled. Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Clear ownership mentality, focusing on outcomes and business impact rather than just tasks. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Experience in mortgage lending, consumer finance, fintech, or other regulated financial services. Deeper data experience with Snowflake or similar platforms (data modeling, pipeline design, optimization, governance). Familiarity with common tools around Snowflake (e.g., dbt or similar transformation frameworks, orchestration tools, BI/analytics tools). Experience building internal line-of-business applications, workflow tools, or operational dashboards. Exposure to event-driven architectures, message queues, and integration platforms (e.g., iPaaS, service buses). Prior experience setting up or maturing engineering and delivery processes (SDLC, Agile practices, documentation, testing standards). Key Competencies: Technical Leadership: Deep backend and integration skills, with enough breadth to build and guide work across frontend, data, and DevOps. Hands-On Delivery: Personally designs, codes, and ships high-quality software; leads by example and sets the technical standard through their own work. Project Ownership: Plans and delivers projects end-to-end, managing scope, timelines, risks, and stakeholder expectations. ## Description The Lead Software Engineer at autoMHatic Financial is a hands-on engineer and the technical backbone of our emerging engineering function. This is a builder's role first and foremost: you will spend the majority of your time designing, coding, and reviewing the APIs, integrations, automations, and services that run our business. You will set the technical direction and quality bar for the team, and provide day-to-day technical guidance to a small group of offshore/nearshore developers who report to you, leading by building alongside them. You will own delivery end-to-end across backend, frontend, data, and DevOps. You will serve as the primary technical point of contact for external partners and vendors, and work directly with the VP of Technology to turn business priorities into working software. As the team grows, you will help hire and mentor engineers and coordinate the offshore/nearshore developers, but this is a senior individual-contributor role, not a people-management seat: we are looking for a doer who elevates the team through their own engineering, code reviews, and technical standards. The ideal candidate is a backend-leaning engineer who still loves to build, with a strong background in APIs and services, hands-on experience integrating Snowflake as a core data platform, and a track record Responsibilities: Serve as the hands-on technical lead for internal tools, integrations, automations, and services, personally writing production code and owning architecture, design, and code reviews. Design, build, and maintain the APIs and integrations that connect internal systems, partner platforms, and our data platform (including Snowflake), owning them from first line of code through production support. Act as the primary technical owner and main point of contact for external technology partners and vendors, leading integration design, implementation, and ongoing technical relationships. Own end-to-end planning and delivery of engineering initiatives: define scope, estimates, milestones, and timelines; oversee execution; and manage launches and post-implementation follow-up. Provide technical direction and day-to-day guidance to a small, primarily offshore/nearshore group of developers who report to you - setting standards, reviewing their code, unblocking them, and raising the quality bar by building alongside them. Establish and run lightweight, effective engineering processes (SDLC, standards, branching, reviews, releases, incident response) and core team rituals (backlog grooming, sprint planning, standups, demos, retros). Collaborate closely with other business units to translate business needs into clear technical requirements and deliver solutions that materially improve efficiency and quality. Drive engineering quality through appropriate testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, environment management, and pragmatic SRE/DevOps practices. ## Related Videos - [From DevOps to Scaled DevOps: How We’re Rebuilding Continuous Delivery as a Platform](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100018-from-devops-to-scaled-devops-how-we-re-rebuilding-continuous-delivery-as-a-platform) - [Developing the Backend with Stefan Lingler, CTO at Shpock](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100360-developing-the-backend-with-stefan-lingler-cto-at-shpock) - [Stop using Node.js like in 2020!
