Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered. * 7+ years of IT experience with at least 5+ years of dedicated, hands-on Azure database administration in enterprise environments. * Must have experience managing multiple large-scale SQL Server instances on Windows platforms. * 5+ years of experience administering and working within Azure data environments, including: * Azure Synapse Analytics - dedicated SQL pool administration, performance tuning, security, and integration patterns. * Azure Data Factory - pipeline monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support. * Azure Storage Accounts - ADLS Gen2 administration, access tier management, and lifecycle policies. * Azure Key Vault - secrets management, managed identity integration, and access policy configuration. * Azure SQL database administration including elastic pools, geo-replication, and automated backups. * Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric is strongly preferred, as it is our target data platform. Expected knowledge includes: * Fabric workspace and capacity administration. * Fabric Lakehouse and Warehouse - administration, security, and performance management. * OneLake - storage governance, shortcut configuration, and medallion architecture support. * Fabric deployment pipelines and Git integration for change management. * Dataflows Gen2 and Data Pipelines - operational monitoring and troubleshooting. * Semantic model administration and Direct Lake mode optimization. * Fabric access controls, workspace roles, and data governance practices. * Experience migrating Synapse or on-premises workloads to Fabric is a strong advantage. * 5+ years of dedicated performance monitoring and troubleshooting experience across SQL Server and Azure platforms. * Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex performance issues including deadlocks, blocking chains, inefficient query plans, and resource contention. * Strong understanding of database security principles including authentication, authorization, auditing, TDE, Always Encrypted, row-level security, and compliance frameworks. * Experience working in regulated environments (healthcare/HIPAA a plus). * Proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell for DBA automation, monitoring, and operational scripting. * Python experience for data platform tasks is a plus. * Experience with Azure DevOps and Git-based version control for database change management, deployment automation, and CI/CD pipelines for database objects. * Working knowledge of Power BI and its integration with SQL Server, Azure Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric for supporting reporting and analytics teams. * Proven experience planning and executing database migrations from on premises to Azure, including schema conversion, data movement, cutover planning, and post-migration validation. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Comfortable working across technical and business teams, producing clear documentation, and presenting database health and recommendations to leadership. * Experience in the healthcare industry is a plus, particularly with HIPAA compliance, PHI data handling, and healthcare data standards. ## Description AgreeYa is a global Systems Integrator and is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator - SQL Server & Azure to join our growing team. The Sr Database Administrator possesses deep expertise in SQL Server and a strong command of Azure data services. This role will be the primary owner of our database platform, ensuring reliability, security, and performance across on-premises and cloud environments while playing a key role in our strategic migration to Microsoft Fabric., Database Ownership * Serves as the primary DBA responsible for the administration, health, and performance of enterprise SQL server environments across production, development, and QA. Ensures all databases operate at peak reliability with minimal downtime. Cloud Database Administration * Administers and manages cloud-based database environments in Azure, including Azure Synapse Analytics dedicated SQL pools, Azure SQL databases, and associated storage and networking components. Owns the day-to-day operational health of these platforms. Microsoft Fabric Administration * Administers and supports the organization's growing Microsoft Fabric environment. Manages Fabric workspaces, capacities, Lakehouses, Warehouses, and OneLake storage. Enforces governance, access controls, and deployment standards as we migrate our data platform to Fabric. Performance Tuning & Optimization * Proactively monitors, diagnoses, and resolves performance issues across SQL Server and Azure/Fabric data environments. Implements and maintains indexing strategies, query optimization, execution plan analysis, and resource governance to ensure consistent performance at scale. Security & Compliance * Establishes and enforces database security standards including user access management, RBAC, auditing, encryption at rest and in transit, and secrets management via Azure Key Vault. Ensures all database environments comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Backup, Recovery & Capacity Planning * Owns all backup and recovery operations. Conducts regular restore testing and maintains documentation. Performs ongoing capacity planning and storage management across SQL Server, Azure Storage Accounts, and Fabric OneLake. Migration Leadership * Leads the migration of on-premises SQL Server databases and ETL workloads to Azure and Microsoft Fabric. Develops and executes migration plans that ensure data integrity, minimize risk, and maintain business continuity throughout the transition. Azure Infrastructure Collaboration * Works closely with cloud infrastructure and data engineering teams to support and administer Azure Data Factory pipelines, Azure Storage Accounts, and Azure Key Vault configurations as they relate to the data platform. Incident Response & Root Cause Analysis * Acts as the escalation point for database-related production incidents. Leads root cause analysis efforts and implements permanent fixes to prevent recurrence. Support & Maintenance * Provides daily monitoring, maintenance, and problem resolution for all production and development database environments. Maintains runbooks, change management documentation, and operational procedures.
