Experience working with school-aged children in a structured setting (e.g., Teaching Assistant, tutoring or related experience). Must be bilingual in English and Karen. + A passing score of 75% (or higher) is required on each portion of the language assessment. Must have access to a reliable and efficient means of transportation in order to travel to multiple work sites. Preferred Qualifications + Experience working in a school setting. + Experience and skill in using computers or the ability and willingness to develop such skill. + Knowledge of the Saint Paul Public Schools and its programs and educational services. + Knowledge and understanding of the ELL Program. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities + Knowledge of community organizations and agencies available to provide services for bilingual families and how to utilize these resources to assist students and/or their families. + Knowledge of the customs and traditions needed to communicate effectively with students and parents who speak the language of the Educational Assistant and an awareness of the implications/connotations of the language used in translations. + Knowledge of computer software programs (e.g., Campus, Access, Microsoft word, Excel, Power Point and/or others) that are applicable to performing job duties. + Knowledge of student behavior management techniques. + Excellent communication skills in English and another language (speaking, reading and writing).
