This is a lab-heavy, tool-in-hand role for someone who enjoys not just designing boards but getting them to work in the real world - probing signals, fixing layout issues, replacing components under a microscope, and rapidly iterating designs. What You´ll Be Doing: + Own PCB designs from schematic to layout to bench validation for real-time embedded control systems (MCUs, drivers, sensors) + Build, rework, and debug prototype boards - including soldering, hot-air reflow, and patch wiring for last-minute changes + Systematically investigate and solve board-level issues using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and signal generators + Collaborate with firmware and mechanical teams to bring up systems and integrate electronics into functional prototypes + Prepare BOMs, layout notes, and clearly documented test reports + Validate electronics in the context of complex systems - identify electrical issues, fix them, and document learnings + Support in-house prototype assembly and iterate quickly between board versions + Provide design-for-debug input and improve testability of production boards ## Related Videos - [Prototyping with Hardware and the Web](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/651-prototyping-with-hardware-and-the-web) - [More efficient software for more efficient microchips](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1164-more-efficient-software-for-more-efficient-microchips) - [The Gashlycrumb Tinies of AI Networking You Must Know (or Languish!)](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/2067-the-gashlycrumb-tinies-of-ai-networking-you-must-know-or-languish) - [Playing Pong on a shoulder press machine](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100140-playing-pong-on-a-shoulder-press-machine) - [Building a hypercar from scratch](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/607-building-a-hypercar-from-scratch) - [Quantum Computing - The tiny and the big challenges](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/934-quantum-computing-the-tiny-and-the-big-challenges) ## Related Articles - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [Where to Find Entry-Level Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/397-where-to-find-entry-level-software-engineering-jobs) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs) - [The 12 Best Jobs for Software Engineers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/401-the-12-best-jobs-for-software-engineers) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Top Characteristics of a Software Engineer](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/166-top-characteristics-of-a-software-engineer)
