Cross-connect audits are slow, careful work. The value is in getting every port right, not moving fast. If you take pride in leaving infrastructure better documented and better organized than you found it, this role is for you. ## Description We're looking for a detail-oriented technician for a temporary, project-based engagement to perform a comprehensive audit of cross-connects within our data center. The position runs for the duration of the audit project, with the possibility of extension depending on scope. You'll be physically tracing, verifying, and documenting fiber and copper cross-connects across meet-me rooms, cage environments, and patch panel infrastructure. This role is hands-on and precision-focused: accuracy of documentation and careful handling of live production circuits are the top priorities. What You'll Do * Physically trace and verify cross-connects (single-mode fiber, multimode fiber, and copper) against records of record (DCIM, spreadsheets, or circuit databases) * Identify and document discrepancies: mislabeled ports, abandoned or orphaned cables, undocumented connections, and incorrect panel assignments * Inspect fiber terminations, connectors (LC, SC, MPO), and patch panels for damage, contamination, or improper seating * Verify labeling on both ends of each cross-connect and apply or correct labels per site standards * Update documentation and produce a clean, auditable record of all findings * Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all data center access and security protocols ## Related Videos - [Kubernetes and Microservices with Multi-Model Databases](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/382-kubernetes-and-microservices-with-multi-model-databases) - [Launching a marketplace on-time: A lesson in taking shortcuts using spreadsheets!](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/477-launching-a-marketplace-on-time-a-lesson-in-taking-shortcuts-using-spreadsheets) - [The Sustainability Race: AI's Promises, Pitfalls and Potential](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100155-the-sustainability-race-ai-s-promises-pitfalls-and-potential) - [How Cisco embraced a DevOps culture within its network engineering team](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/99-how-cisco-embraced-a-devops-culture-within-its-network-engineering-team) - [Fault Tolerance and Consistency at Scale: Harnessing the Power of Distributed SQL Databases](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1146-fault-tolerance-and-consistency-at-scale-harnessing-the-power-of-distributed-sql-databases) - [What makes Cybersecurity different for critical infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/571-what-makes-cybersecurity-different-for-critical-infrastructure) ## Related Articles - [How We Built a Worry-Free System That Runs for 10+ Years – And What We’d Do Again](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/751-how-we-built-a-worry-free-system-that-runs-for-10-years-and-what-we-d-do-again) - [What Makes WeAreDevelopers World Congress Different From Every Other Tech Event?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/701-what-makes-wearedevelopers-world-congress-different-from-every-other-tech-event) - [What Are The Top Skills Required For Azure Developers?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/77-what-are-the-top-skills-required-for-azure-developers) - [Dev Digest 162: AI careers, MCP, AWS best practices & floppy sweaters](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/571-dev-digest-162-ai-careers-mcp-aws-best-practices-floppy-sweaters) - [Why Attend a Developer Event in 2026?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/688-why-attend-a-developer-event-in-2026) - [Data Science & more: The Lopez dilemma](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/10-data-science-more-the-lopez-dilemma)
