In this role, you will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing our database infrastructure to ensure high performance, security, and availability of our critical data assets., Designs, installs, maintains, and upgrades databases across production and non-production environments. Provides technical expertise in traditional and cloud database technologies, ensuring the overall performance, scalability, and security of the enterprise's database ecosystem. This role bridges standard relational database management (SQL Server) with managed cloud services (Amazon RDS) and advanced data governance (Unity Catalog). Core & Platform-Specific Responsibilities Top 7 Core Responsibilities Database Planning & Architecture: Plans and organizes database activities regarding reliability, performance monitoring, tuning, security, backup, and disaster recovery across on-premises and cloud instances. Performance Optimization: Monitors and analyzes database performance, calibrates DBMS parameters, and troubleshoots complex application (e.g., T-SQL) performance issues to ensure optimal throughput. Database Modernization (Amazon RDS): Provisions, configures, and scales Amazon RDS instances (including SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL engines). Manages Multi-AZ deployments, automated snapshots, and storage autoscaling. Data Governance & Access Control (Unity Catalog): Implements and manages Databricks Unity Catalog to enforce centralized access control, auditing, lineage tracking, and data security policies across workspace environments. Development & Automation: Codes, edits, and installs stored procedures, functions, and automation scripts for accessing, maintaining, and populating databases. Security & Permissions: Controls privileges, roles, and permissions for database users, ensuring least-privilege access and compliance with information security standards. Lifecycle Management & Support: Performs database upgrades, schema migrations, and additions of new structures. Provides production support and database access 24/7 for critical environments. Additional Responsibilities: Environment Management: Maintains development, production, and multiple testing environments across local and cloud environments. Capacity Planning: Monitors utilization metrics and storage trends to forecast capacity needs for both physical hardware and cloud-allocated storage. Project Collaboration: Works on one or more projects as a core team member or occasional technical lead. Documentation & Metadata: Develops and maintains enterprise data documentation, data dictionaries, and technical metadata within Unity Catalog and standard repositories.
