This role owns that data. A successful candidate would create precise annotations of animal behaviours, curating clean datasets from raw footage, and keeping everything organised so our animal-health models can be trained and improved reliably. It suits someone who is careful and methodical, experienced in animal behaviour monitoring, and comfortable working with software and data., * Careful, consistent visual judgment: you annotate animal behaviours precisely and repeatably, without drifting from the standard * An interest in and aptitude for animal behaviour and welfare: you can learn behavioural definitions and apply them reliably. A background in animal, veterinary or biological science is one route in; a strong willingness to learn is another * Comfortable with data and software: annotation tools, structured file and data organisation, and cloud storage concepts, with the ability to pick up new tools quickly * Clear communication: you ask when something is unclear, and you document what you decided and why * Organised and reliable with structured data and steady throughput Desirable (Not Required) * Experience with annotation tools (CVAT, Label Studio, Roboflow, Labelbox or similar) * Cloud storage and data management * Light Python or scripting * Comfortable using agentic AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude etc) * A background in animal science, veterinary medicine, zoology or ethology, or exposure to machine learning, data science or computer vision * Familiarity with how machine-learning models are trained and evaluated, This role could fit someone from an animal or veterinary science background who is technically curious and wants to work with data, or someone with a data, computer vision or machine learning background who wants their work to count towards animal welfare. ## Description We improve animal welfare through computer vision, building intelligent monitoring systems that help vets and animal owners provide better care for animals under their care. We are a University of Nottingham spin-out working with major UK partners. Our mission is to transform the lives of millions of animals worldwide using computer vision AI. What You'll Do * Annotate images and video to a defined protocol of nuanced changes in animal behaviour * Mine and curate datasets from raw footage, such as extracting behavioural events from large video datasets, and building clean, well-structured training sets * Work with model-assisted labelling: review, correct and refine predictions from our existing models to help retrain and improve them * Organise and archive datasets in cloud-based architectures with consistent structure, versioning and metadata, so data stays findable and reproducible * Apply and help improve our annotation guidelines, flagging ambiguous or unusual cases rather than guessing, and documenting decisions * Support annotation quality, including consistency checks, so the ground truth our science and product depend on stays reliable ## Related Videos - [ Evaluating AI models for code comprehension](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1462-evaluating-ai-models-for-code-comprehension) - [JavaScript?
