This position is responsible for tracking the purchase of portable permanent trafficcounting equipment, and distribution of traffic data in publications for the Internet. The traffic data provides thedepartment with the information needed for highway project planning, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)reporting requirements, and safety analysis., * Manages the comprehensive Traffic Counting and Truck Classification Program for the state to provide accurate and timely travel data for the department's needs. * Advises and directs staff to provide consistent and complete support for the districts regarding procedures, technology, and tools used in the implementation of the Traffic Counting and Truck Classification Program. * Responds quickly and accurately to requests for vehicle miles traveled (VMT) and average daily traffic (ADT) information along with producing the Illinois Travel Statistics, Illinois Highway Statistics Sheet, and National Highway System (NHS) Illinois Highway Statistics Sheet. * Coordinates the statewide need for traffic counting equipment and purchases the appropriate equipment for the districts to implement the Traffic Counting and Truck Classification Program. * Administers the contracts for the field collection of traffic count data by consultants in various districts. * Maintains written documentation of the Traffic Counting and Truck Classification Program in the Illinois Traffic Monitoring Guide as required by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). * Develops and maintains Microsoft Access databases for the processing and editing of the short-term traffic data and the continuous traffic data from the Continuous Count Station (CCS) locations. * Motivates, organizes, and provides the professional development of staff through training and evaluation to achieve the timely completion of the Traffic Counting and Truck Classification Program's responsibilities. * Perform duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
