**Published:** July 26, 2026 - **Apply:** https://www.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=f638350109b479e2 ## About the Role * Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2+ years of relevant experience in QA or test engineering, ideally spanning both embedded/firmware and software systems. * This is a career-development role within the QA discipline: you'll take on assignments of increasing complexity under moderate supervision, with some latitude for independent judgment. * Hands-on experience testing embedded systems (C/C++, RTOS environments, serial or wireless communication protocols). * Understanding of IoT or connected-device architectures, including cloud-to-device communication. * Experience with bug tracking and test management tools (ex, Jira). * Comfort working directly with physical hardware and lab equipment, not just simulators. * Understanding embedded C/C++ to review firmware changes, reason about failure modes, and write meaningful test cases against them. * Familiarity with hardware debugging and measurement tools (multimeters, logic analyzers, j-link debuggers, serial terminals). * Understanding of common embedded failure modes. * Scripting ability for building or maintaining test automation and CI/CD tooling is a plus * Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work across firmware, software, and QA teams. * Able and willing to work onsite at our Boston office 2-3 days per week., * Experience with hardware test rigs, oscilloscopes, or protocol analyzers. * Background in IoT, appliances, or other connected-hardware products. * Familiarity with pytest-based embedded test frameworks or firmware simulation/emulation. * Exposure to bootloaders, OTA/DFU update mechanisms, or firmware release processes. * Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS) and infrastructure-as-code tools. * Experience building custom test fixtures or HIL test rigs from scratch. * Experience working with JIRA and/or Confluence is a plus. * Experience with specific AI testing/code review tools. ## Description * Monitor and test firmware and low-level software development throughout the entire software development life cycle (SDLC), verifying that releases meet defined quality standards and customer agreements - influencing not just how it is tested, but how it's developed. * Design, implement, and maintain test strategies for embedded systems and connected-device workflows to assess release-readiness. * Validate firmware behavior on physical machines and test hardware, including sensors, dispensing mechanisms, and connectivity modules. * Test over-the-air (OTA) firmware update flows for reliability, rollback safety, and fleet-wide rollout. * Characterize firmware behavior under soak and stress testing to catch memory leaks, timing issues, and intermittent failures. * Work to prevent bugs from occurring during development, improving the overall development process rather than just catching issues after the fact. * Collaborate with firmware, software, and hardware engineers to identify and resolve identified defects. * Track and document test procedures and findings in a bug tracking system, and participate in design review meetings to report on results. * Contribute to release sign-off and help define quality gates for new machine, firmware, and software releases. * Explore and adopt AI-powered testing tools such as AI-assisted test generation, self-healing automation scripts, and anomaly detection to improve test coverage and efficiency. * Debug firmware issues at the source using debuggers, serial consoles, and logic analyzers to isolate whether failures originate in firmware, hardware, or integration layers. * Develop tests that exercise firmware over its communication interfaces (UART, I2C, USB, Wi-Fi), including fault injection and boundary conditions like power loss, sensor failure, and degraded connectivity. ## Related Videos -
