This role owns database availability, security, and performance across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, balancing operational excellence with strategic cloud migration and DevOps-driven automation. Scope * On-premises SQL Server and Azure SQL Managed Instance environments * Cloud-native database platforms: PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Databricks * Cloud migration planning, execution, and optimization * Database security, access controls, auditing, and compliance * DevOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and automation * High availability, disaster recovery, and database reliability engineering, Cloud Migration & On-Premises MSSQL Administration * Migrate on-premises SQL Server databases to Azure SQL Managed Instance with minimal downtime and optimized configurations * Evaluate and recommend target platforms (Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Databricks) based on workload characteristics * Perform routine maintenance on SQL Server instances including index optimization, statistics updates, integrity checks, and performance tuning * Manage Byte database upgrades and lower environment refreshes with production data * Conduct query optimization, execution plan analysis, and workload profiling Cloud-Native Database Management * Administer Azure SQL databases including elastic pools, serverless tiers, and geo-replication * Manage PostgreSQL deployments including replication (logical/streaming), backup/recovery, partitioning, and index strategies * Administer Snowflake platform: roles, permissions, security policies, warehouse sizing, query optimization, and clustering * Support Databricks environments: cluster administration, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake/Lakehouse architecture, and Spark tuning Security, High Availability & Disaster Recovery * Implement Azure security measures including access controls, firewalls, Transparent Data Encryption, and auditing * Manage on-prem SQL Server security: user provisioning, role-based access, and vulnerability assessments * Enforce security policies and data governance across Snowflake, Databricks, and PostgreSQL * Configure and manage Distributed Availability Groups (DAGs) and Always On AGs with read-only intent for reporting * Design backup/recovery strategies and conduct DR testing across all platforms DevOps, Automation & Deployment * Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for database deployments using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins * Develop Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep) for provisioning database resources * Automate schema migrations, data refreshes, and validation workflows using Python, PowerShell, or Bash * Implement monitoring and alerting (Azure Monitor, Grafana, Datadog) for database health and performance * Manage version control of database schemas and migration scripts using Git * Provide DBA support for Byte DB Archive and address ad-hoc database requests, Direct Reports: N/A PHYSICAL and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS This role operates in an ADA compliant office environment, utilizing typical office equipment and tasks including computer work. The position may involve partial stationary positions and moving throughout the day. Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines is required. Base Compensation Information - This role is a remote position that is currently allocated for candidates within geographic regions that do not currently require base wage disclosure. The compensation range for this position will be provided upon request.
