## About the Role

* Deep understanding of how to build for correctness and have an instinct for where idempotency, reconciliation, retry logic, and audit trails matter in a billing system
 * Past experience with building usage-based billing, subscription, and invoice services
 * Proven experience designing and leading large-scale, cross-team technical projects from inception to completion
 * Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated through a portfolio of technical design documents, architectural diagrams, or public presentations
 * A strong sense of ownership and the ability to navigate ambiguity to drive complex projects forward with a high degree of autonomy
 * Familiarity with using AI in day-to-day coding
 * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
 * 8+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping backend or platform systems in production and 3+ years leading large-scale, complex projects as a tech lead

You'd be a great fit with:

 * Experience with the operational side of B2B billing or B2C billing
 * Familiarity with global payment systems, including international tax regulations (VAT, GST), currency conversion, and local payment methods
 * Worked on revenue reconciliation, financial reporting pipelines, or systems that had to survive an audit
 * Familiarity with usage-based billing platforms like Metronome
 * Expertise in programming backends in Go

## Description

* Design and implement end-to-end usage-based billing capabilities, utilizing pricing primitives, payment flows, usage tracking, contract and entitlement models, and revenue data pipelines. Know where to extend third-party billing platform integrations and where to build our own primitives around them.
 * Collaborate with Product and Customer Success teams to translate ambiguous business needs into scalable technical solutions for our next-generation billing system, including expansion into new international markets and supporting Enterprise resellers.
 * Own the interfaces with third-party billing platforms like Metronome and Stripe as well as our internal dataset for generating invoices and revenue reports.
 * Perform required manual work like Enterprise contract amendments, pricing config changes, and billing support escalations. A lot of it can be automated by building internal tooling, but some of it still requires human-in-the-loop.
 * Partner with Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders on compliance-related technical decisions.
