The introduction of ERTMS will play a key role in enhancing operational performance and improving safety across the Transpennine Route. The complexity of systems like ERTMS demands a systems-based approach to ensure safe and integrated functioning across the trackside, onboard, and broader railway systems. Within the TRU Digital programme, the Systems Integration team is responsible for ensuring the safe integration of the ERTMS sub-systems, as well as it's integration with the overall rail system. This team includes assurance specialists and engineers focused on requirements management, system safety & interoperability, security, ergonomics, EMC, PRAMS and operations & maintenance readiness. We are now seeking a skilled and experienced engineer with a background in delivering railway signalling projects to join our team as a Senior Project Engineer (Systems) to lead on and support a variety of workstreams, including requirements management, V&V, CSM, Interoperability, systems integration and assurance. This role offers an exciting challenge within a growing team that is committed to mentorship and professional growth. Some of the key accountabilities of this role are: 1. Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to deliver a cost effective, high quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects. Review all relevant legislation and liaise with relevant governmental departments. 2. Monitor the competence of Project Engineers working on projects within the Systems Integration discipline and provide functional guidance, direction and briefing. 3. Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects so all design and construction contracts include reference to appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards. 4. Apply relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to all projects and check whether the environmental aspects of all projects are managed in accordance with Network Rail Environmental Policy. 5. Monitor all projects for compliance with specified requirements, including Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards and Network Rail project control procedures. 6. Advise project and programme management in respect of all systems integration activities, signalling construction activities, testing and commissioning, and site supervision. Monitor whether the signalling design and construction elements meet the requirements of legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations. 7. Monitor the competency of contractors' design, construction and specialist personnel to assure the quality of supply chain outputs. Undertake the duties of nominated design and construction / design construction engineer and undertake reviews of [Discipline] design and construction activities. Arrange audits of contractors to monitor whether safety and quality of design, construction testing and commissioning and management systems to provide assurance to relevant Network Rail standards and procedures. 8. Carry out the duties of designated project engineer (DPE) to fulfil the requirements of Network Rail engineering management standards and procedures. 9. Undertake accident or technical incident investigations when remitted to by the relevant designated competent person to identify root causes/corrective actions required and to disseminate learning. 10. Undertake the project categorisation for engineering, to determine level of engineering assurance to be undertaken on specific projects or programmes ## Related Videos - [Model Based Systems Engineering in an Agile Product Development Process](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/68-model-based-systems-engineering-in-an-agile-product-development-process) - [The user in the eye of the Cargo1492 storm](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/96-the-user-in-the-eye-of-the-cargo1492-storm) - [Thinking Differently - How to Make Money from Cyber Attacks & Cheats](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/745-thinking-differently-how-to-make-money-from-cyber-attacks-cheats) - [From Bedside Beeps to Interoperable Bytes – Getting your medical devices ready to talk the IEEE 11073 language](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/771-from-bedside-beeps-to-interoperable-bytes-getting-your-medical-devices-ready-to-talk-the-ieee-11073-language) - [What makes Cybersecurity different for critical infrastructure?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/571-what-makes-cybersecurity-different-for-critical-infrastructure) - [Agile work at CARIAD – Creating a customer web application for controlling the vehicle ](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/200-agile-work-at-cariad-creating-a-customer-web-application-for-controlling-the-vehicle) ## Related Articles - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs) - [Top Characteristics of a Software Engineer](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/166-top-characteristics-of-a-software-engineer) - [Where to Find Entry-Level Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/397-where-to-find-entry-level-software-engineering-jobs) - [Data Engineer Salary UK](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/253-data-engineer-salary-uk) - [Is Software Engineering Hard?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/448-is-software-engineering-hard) - [The 12 Best Jobs for Software Engineers](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/401-the-12-best-jobs-for-software-engineers)
