## Description

Summary: The Network Engineer is the IS&S network support team member assigned to schools and administrative sites to handle the installation, administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networking technology. This person supports the CMS Wide Area Network (WAN), the school Local Area Network (LAN), routers, switches, wireless access points (APs), and the site data closets.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

For all assigned schools/administrative sites:

 * Installation/maintenance/upgrading of access points (APs)
 * Installation/maintenance/upgrading of switches and routers
 * Proactive Support and Management of Networks using Network Management tools
 * Maintenance of data closet to adhere to departmental standards
 * Projects (software, hardware, firmware updates)
 * Second-level support (after IS&S System Engineer or Network System Engineer level 1)
 * Troubleshooting, root cause analysis
 * Documentation - "how to" guides, required ticket system information, site configurations, other documentation as assigned/requested
 * Performs other duties as assigned
