KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Expertise with Teamcenter ITK (C/C++): custom handlers, user exits, server extensions, and SOA service development on enterprise-scale deployments. * Proven track record architecting Teamcenter integration patterns: T4S (SAP), T4EA (Enterprise Application), Dispatcher services, SOA, REST, SOAP, and message-driven patterns; experience integrating Teamcenter with JD Edwards or comparable ERP required. * Strong working knowledge of relational databases (Oracle or SQL Server) for diagnostics, schema design, and integration; able to read execution plans and tune queries. * Proficiency with Git, code-review tooling, and CI/CD pipelines; experience with secure-coding practices and remediation of static-analysis and software-composition-analysis findings. * Strong software engineering fundamentals: data structures, design patterns, modular architecture, debugging, performance analysis, and disciplined testing. * Expert proficiency in C/C++ for ITK development; strong working proficiency in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, and JSON for AWC and integration development. * Proven ability to translate functional specifications and solution designs into clean, well-documented, supportable, and validated code, and to set patterns others can follow. * Disciplined approach to configuration management, versioning, branching, and release engineering for Teamcenter customizations across multi-environment landscapes. * Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and to author audit-ready design and validation documentation. * Demonstrated security mindset: applies secure-coding practices, considers data-protection and access-control implications, and partners effectively with cybersecurity on findings remediation. * Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned accountabilities. * Ability to provide day to day guidance/mentoring to others in a consistently supportive and collaborative approach. * Continuous-learning mindset; tracks Siemens Teamcenter X release content, AWC evolution, emerging integration patterns (event-driven, API-led), and AI-assisted development tooling relevant to MSD's roadmap. * Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; sound judgment in handling complex, ambiguous technical situations. * Ability to influence at all levels of the organization and drive consensus on technical direction. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: * This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office and facilities. ## Description This position is responsible for the design, build, and integration of MSD's Siemens Teamcenter X Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platform. The position owns the technical architecture for server-side customization (ITK, SOA, custom handlers), codeful BMIDE extensions, Active Workspace Client (AWC) customization, and integrations connecting Teamcenter with JD Edwards ERP, CAD systems, manufacturing systems, and downstream consumers across MSD's digital thread. The Principal Developer establishes engineering standards and reusable patterns for the broader PLM team, mentors senior and junior developers, and serves as the principal technical partner to the Sr. Teamcenter Functional Analyst, Teamcenter administrators, infrastructure engineers, and Siemens or systems-integrator partners., * Own the technical architecture for Teamcenter X customizations, integrations, and extensions across server-side, AWC, and integration layers; set engineering standards, reusable patterns, and reference designs for the PLM team. * Lead the design, development, and unit-testing of Teamcenter X server-side customizations using ITK (C/C++), including custom handlers, user exits, BMIDE extensions, and SOA service implementations, personally taking on the most complex builds. * Lead migration from Aras to Teamcenter X. Set technical standards, lead architectural decisions, and ensure all customizations are well-architected, supportable, and validated within a regulated (21 CFR Part 11 / GxP) and ISO 27001-controlled environment. * Architect and review Teamcenter X codeful BMIDE extensions (custom business objects, properties, methods, deep-copy rules, GRM rules); determine where codeful customization is justified versus codeless configuration. * Drive Active Workspace Client (AWC) customization strategy: declarative UI (JSON view-model definitions), custom commands, client-side event handlers, and toolbar/context-menu integration; establish front-end engineering standards. * Define workflow handler patterns (action, rule, condition) and EPM handlers supporting engineering change, document control, and product release processes. * Architect integrations between Teamcenter X and downstream/upstream systems (JD Edwards ERP, MES, CAD, quality systems, middleware) using T4S, T4EA, SOA, REST, and message-based patterns; own end-to-end integration design across the MSD digital thread. * Establish standards for technical design specifications, code reviews, unit-test results, deployment runbooks, and validation-supporting documentation (IQ/OQ/PQ artifacts) consistent with MSD's GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and ISO 27001 standards. * Own the configuration management strategy for Teamcenter customization assets under source control (Git), code-review practices, CI/CD pipelines for Teamcenter deliverables, and secure-coding standards. * Partner with Teamcenter administrators on environment promotion, BMIDE template deployment, dispatcher configuration, AWC indexer/full-text search, and upgrade or patch impact analysis; lead technical impact analysis for platform upgrades. * Serve as the escalation point for technical issues on production Teamcenter incidents, performance, and integration failures; lead root-cause analysis and drive permanent corrective actions. * Mentor senior and junior developers, lead technical reviews, contribute to architectural decisions on the Teamcenter and broader digital-thread roadmap, and represent Teamcenter engineering in cross-functional architecture forums. ## Related Videos - [Blueprints for Success: Steering a Global Data & AI Architecture](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1577-blueprints-for-success-steering-a-global-data-ai-architecture) - [Tips and Tricks for Working with JSON](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1229-tips-and-tricks-for-working-with-json) - [How a Small Team Shrank a Microsoft Monorepo by 94%](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/1236-how-a-small-team-shrank-a-microsoft-monorepo-by-94) - [Navigating the Corporate Jungle: Life as a Developer in a large Company](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/621-navigating-the-corporate-jungle-life-as-a-developer-in-a-large-company) - [Introducing JSON Structure](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/100219-introducing-json-structure) - [Git for Code Reviews](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/videos/429-git-for-code-reviews) ## Related Articles - [What’s the Difference between a Junior, Mid, and Senior Developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/238-what-s-the-difference-between-a-junior-mid-and-senior-developer) - [The Most Popular IT Jobs on the Market](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/376-the-most-popular-it-jobs-on-the-market) - [What Makes WeAreDevelopers World Congress Different From Every Other Tech Event?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/701-what-makes-wearedevelopers-world-congress-different-from-every-other-tech-event) - [Fully Remote Software Engineer Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/447-fully-remote-software-engineer-jobs) - [Where To Find Software Engineering Jobs](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/396-where-to-find-software-engineering-jobs) - [System change: restart as developer?](https://www.wearedevelopers.com/magazine/39-system-change-restart-as-developer)
